When is the last time any foreign oil producing country asked the US to set the price we'd like to pay for oil?
Oh, at about the same time that Snap-on asked you what you'd like to pay for tools.

OPEC isn't "charging" $60/bbl, the world oil market is offering it on the exchanges. OPEC only sets the output and supply and demand does the rest. You know - in a way, OPEC IS asking what we'd like to pay....

As far as them pumping to capacity, what I've heard is that they're almost at max capacity. Over 90% at least. And then there's the refining capability of the US... or lack of it.

DC? They may have something to do with it. Environmentalists - sure. The NIMBY crowd? Yep. All of us with our ~17-20 MPG vehicles? You bet. The war in Iraq? Yep. What else? China, India and other rapidly developing countries? Oh yeah.

Oh, and the ultimate cause? WE'RE WILLING TO PAY FOR IT!! When we stop, the price will come down.

Beg to differ, but OPEC does not set the price of crude - they set production limits. It's the brokers and supply and demand at work.

Yeah, I figger that in that in the last few years, every Thom Dhick and Herry has bought diesels...runnin around the city not even utilizing the power under the hood...puttin them in the SUV's and no tellin where else...but there has not been any new processing and refining plants built in that time...the demand for consumer grade diesel has dramatically increased and I think that the storage and processing capacity is being burdened and we the consumers are seeing the cost difference...

I would say you got it easy there!

I've been paying $2.879 for diesel now for months! In Cally I've heard roumors that it hit $3.00 a gallon. In Canada it's in the high $3's or going for $4 bucks a gallon!

There are others hurting way harder than us... Count your blessings!

Using an exchange rate of USD 0.82 = CDN 1.00 I come up with a price of USD 2.384 up here in Edmonton. Mind you that's at Hughes where I get about 6 cents per litre discount

Pump price is 82.9 cents per litre which works out to USD 2.573 per gallon.

Feel free to correct my math.

With OPEC admitting that they have lost control of the oil prices, expect prices to keep going up.

I pay 2.33 for super for my car and 2.35 for diesel.

It could always be worse, we could be paying in upwards of $5 a gallon for regular like they do in Europe(even though those gov'ts tax the hell out of it for keeping the roads flawless, among other things).

If it keeps going the way it is, I suspect $3.50 for diesel or supreme by the end of the summer, with out the added benefits of the extra taxes.

Not wise to be advertising that on a public forum.
