Actaully, the dealer has been very good to me. They have helped since I bought the thing by providing me little stuff at cost.
But they keep reminding me that I bought it "as is".

I spoke to the shop foremen tonight and he mentioned that these engines can go 30 over.
He also stated that getting the crank turned on this engine is very costly, but he couldnt remember any prices associated with "costly".

With any luck, I'll get some time this weekend to pull the pan and check out the bottom end. I think I should get a pretty good idea what Im in for once I drop the pan.

Thirty over, that ought to take care of the cylinders unless you really scored them good. So far as turning the crank, I can't think of a reason why one crank ought to be much more expensive than another to turn. I suppose there could be something about the crankshaft that makes it hard to set up in the machine, or something like that. I'm willing to bet that if you take it apart and take the pieces to a good general automotive machine shop, you'll be able to beat the prices you've gotten by a wide margin.

We've got a yanmar tractor with the 3 cyl 33 hp motor in it. It is a very stout built engine. Someone had run it out of oil and we had to put a used short block in it because there was a rod sticking out the side of the block but it has run good for us. i think our used short block was about $2000. Good luck

 

By chance, you remember where you found that used short block?
