Ok guys I got a duramax question

Alright so forgive me for asking about a Duramax, but I have a question and don't know the answer to it..........hoping somebody could help??

So my soon to be brother in law ( he's 19 ) just bought an 02' Duramax. Well last night I installed an Edge juice w/ attitude for him and his boost numbers seem kinda ????? On kill mode the monitor is only showing 21 to 22psi and he's still blowing some pretty black smoke.......which leads me to think he's not making enough boost to burn all the fuel.

Now does anyone know whether those numbers sound right, or is there something I can do to get some more boost?? Maybe plug the hose to the wastegate??

Thanks guys

~Nick

Stock, boost is around 24psi. I'd say there is a problem, stuck wastegate? Hope that helps.

Hmmmmm that does help......I'll have to fart around with it tonight!!!

I did notice while I was installing that last night, that there is a hose somewhat similar to the HX35 going to the wastegate. Now are there boost elbows like the dodges or can I take the hose off the wastegate side and plug it??

Actually for an 02, that is a reasonable number. The wastegate on the LB7 engine is just the Cummins and is a pressure pot. Without a boost elbow or some sort of wastegate control, the DM only blows smoke and gets to about 1800°F EGT's.

Be warned, if you do install a boost control device, the turbos EXPLODE over 30 psi... There aren't that many to choose from either.. I think TST makes a boost "elbow". I would definitely not plug off the wastegate, You will blow the turbo..

My 02 DMax w/ Edge/Attitude, most full throttle runs show 21-22psi. Have seen as high as 24 psi, but only for a second.
Check on dieselplace.com, lots of good info. If I remember correctly, the Attitude only reads accurately up to 25psi.

From what I have read and been told, that has all to do with the MAP sensor on the engine. Same thing goes for the ISBE, but the MAP goes to 49 Psi!!
