Oil pan heaters

Wolverine pad install?
Hey Guys,
Just received my oil pan heater from Wolverine. Where on the pan do you actually install it?
I just crawled under the truck and I totally forgot that the drain plug is right smack in the middle of the bottom of the pan. (great for draining oil, no good to stick a patch over it !)
There is not enough room to put the heater beside the plug. Where did you guys install? I think it can go on the passenger side of the pan? Will this still work?
Thanks

I just got a model 40 wolverine pad heater it fit perfectly on the passenger side of the oil pan with no problem. It seems to work well except now that its on, its 40 degrees outside and going to be 50 this weekend the weather needs to make up its mind here .

you can install them on the side of the pan and it will work fine. but wolverine says its best to install on the bottom of the pan because of the sump-heat rises.

i've got a 300w magnetic heater attached to the side of my oil pan [i made a metal bracket to go from it to one of the engine barring tool plug bolts] and i put gobs of silicon heat sink compound between the heater and the pan. an air gap there will make it heat worth nothing at all... the silicon compound transmits lots of heat and after 2.5-3 hours the oil is at operating temps/pressures when starting up from the outside being -20°C

A friend of mine has an heater dipstick that you just stick into the dipstick tube and plug it in ,says it works great.and you don't have to go under the truck and clean anything to stick it to.
