Not trying to start a war - but, that high HP Duramax that melted 40 Allisons...

But then again the cummins common rail rods are a step backwards compared to their earlier motors. My experience with the Dmax is just like the old saying they seem to run best right before they let go. I have been through a couple P2's but think I may of solved one of the issues by EFI and going to 342 gears.

I never said it was. It is a hard to beat transmission in a "stock power work-truck only towing huge trailers all day across the country through varied terrain" application. Racing or more than 750rwhp, forget it. You are on borrowed time no matter how built up it is.
Yes there are some chevy guys who fly the allison flag way too much, the allison is gods given gift to the transmission world............but there are also dodge guys that do the same thing with the cummins flag...
just my opinion

I cannot comment much on transmissions as I know little. I will say that the Dodge unit has been modified successfully for several years now and has been improved upon.
Keep in mind, the low end torque that we Cummins owners enjoy has it's downfalls when trying to put it to the ground. Potentially, the hi RPM of the GM diesel might also create problems within the Dodge trans if coupled together.
I will say there is no easy answer to either problem.
Either support your truck or sell it and support another.

Actually that isn't what I was getting at. Parts on the motor are too innertwined sort of speak. It takes 45 minutes to swap inj on my cummins compared to a long full day on the Max... 10 minutes to change a water pump on a Cummins all day on the Max... Valve lash 20 min on the cummins 1/2 day on a Max. The Japs where stupid on their design for servicablility.

I know exactly what you mean.... I used to be a Nissan Tech.....Hung the tools up after I finished my 4 yr. degree in EET. Try to swap some turbo's on a Nissan 300z twin turbo while the motor is still in the car...LOL
Edited: Oh, almost forgot... Do some timing chain sets on some of the front wheel drive cars. Depending on which one, all air tools, 8-10 hrs all up over your head.
