NOS question

I have a question about some nitrous... Could I blow a shot into my intake on a dyno to cool me off a little, and give me some better numbers? Is is dangerous for my head? I do not have any head work done. Or, would it not be effective?

Just tryin to cheat a little...

TIA...

I am fairly sure you can do this I always hear people joking about doing it but never seen it actually done, and as far as your head it would create more power so ya know

I'd like to expand on his question a bit. People blow their engines all the time with nitrous on a gasser, because they don't realize how much fuel they need and run them lean, and then kaboom!

However, with diesels we can run as lean as we want without a serious side effect. Is it potentially dangerous to run nitrous through our trucks? It seems like we could dump nitrous through our engines all day and the only negative effect would be wasting the precious NO2... am I right?

Watched a few brave souls literally spraying Buck's red dually at the last dyno... through the air filter.

Words can't describe... just how funny & wrong that scene was - a classic "hold my beer & watch this episode"!

Well, what happened?!?!??!?!?!

In a diesel, if you add too much no2, it's just like adding too much O2, and it acts like it's running out of fuel. When you hit this point, just back down the shot...

I'm worried about too much pressure in the head, and blowing a gasket or ring...

There is video floating around where they did this. Maybe it was on Streetsmoker's truck. It did make some gains on dyno IIRC.

The only danger I know of from using to much nitrous would be excessive cylinder pressure. And we all know what that will do. Thankfully we just have 1 head to pull.

Main thing that happened was the dyno operator puckered up and chased everyone out of the shop!

I was going to try in last time I dynoed, but the guy didn't want me standing in front of the truck to spray it.

I just don't want to break....

There was a member I think on this forum a few years back that posted a video of using a bottle and spraying directly into the air intake on a dyno. Seems he picked up 50+ hp using the spray. Chances of getting too much cylinder pressure using that method is pretty slim I think.
