Noise bylaws

Buy a cheap Ford with a 460 5spd in it, cut the exhaust off just after the cat and then take off every morning, shifting at the top of each gear. After about 3 weeks of that they'll be dying to have your diesel back.
Anyway, see if you can appease them, find out what their main complaints are and if possible address it. Things just get to be a pain when the "law" is involved.

Has anyone ever took a muffler, sliced it down the middle, gutted it and put it back on? I'm not overly aware what would be the result of such a thing(maybe excessive noise in comparison to a simple piece of pipe or maybe back pressure) but I was actually considering that myself. Although I just went with it and bought the pipe. I go by the cop shop every morning and haven't had any troubles as of yet so maybe I shouldn't jinx myself. Ah well... who knows...

I fully respect my neighbours and I don't rip around the neighbourhood like an idiot. we have young kids where I am, so I pretty much idle in and out of there. no one is asking for you to "side" with anyone. I was simply wondering if I fell within the law the way I have my exhaust and if my neighbours had a right to call in the bylaw officer.
thanks for the "input"

That combo, along with the older (02 and older) Cummins is going to be loud. If your neighbors pay taxes then they have every right to file a complaint against you. Hopefully the state won't try for an emission test on your truck. Let us know how much the fine is.

Just put a flow through Magnaflow on it. Looks like a muffler and its straight through. Zero obstructions. Throaty enough to be fun, quiet enough for the neighbors. Don't be a butt head, there are people who are sleeping at 6:10 that are gainfully employed.

In all due respect having a good relationship with your neighbors goes a long way. Farther than thhe ego of im right youre wrong, or the 5hp gained by not having a muffler.
no one in my neigborhood has complained about my straight pipe, mainly because i dont drive early or at night, nor do i "goose it" in residential areas.. but if anyone were to say its a problem to them, id gladly throw a muffler in there.

When people shut their yapping <edit> dogs up in my neighborhood is the day I will put a muffler on.Do you live in one of those housing tracts where they tell you what color you can paint your house? How many cars you can have out front? If all my neighbors have to complain about is the sound of my truck starting up and idling out in the morning, then they need to get a life.I get tired of whiners ...

My neighbors dog will bark all night long and I wont say nothing and my dog will bark once or twice and they call the cops, which they dont do anything. I cant wait to get my truck staight piped.

put a Y pipe in...one leg runs to a muffler and the other leg straight. then put another Y pipe after the muffler and straight sections to keep the single tailpipe.
you could rig up a cable to turn one on and the other off depending on where you are driving. its an expensive route, but here is an electric one. gives you best of both worlds...

do the best to keep the neighbors happy.

you might want to check but i believe in most states that a turbo is concitered a muffler..... that's why the new SRT-4 has no muffler they have the turbo and some cats and that's it..... it's definately worth checkin on....

I have to agree 100 percent with you Geico. And, I just added a Magnaflow to mine. It is not obnoxious at all, but still flows great and has a nice throaty sound. And, I am asleep usually at 6:10am. Shoot sometimes, I don't go to sleep till almost then...LOL.
IF I was in the same position as you, I would go and calmly speak with your neighbors and try to work something out including adding a flow through style muffler. They have a right to have some peace and quiet just like, in your mind, you have a right to do whatever you want with your truck. Surely there is a compromise to be made somewhere without getting the law involved. My 2 cents.

If you install a Y in the system it's still considered an alteration and subject to the rules.
