I think all the manufacturing is being moved to Mexico for Freightliner, Sterling and Western Star also. They're shutting down the plant in Oregon from what I've heard.

It's a smart move on Daimler's part. With all the Mexican's returning to their home country - they'll have more workers than jobs.

Good thing that all the american unions stick to their guns and don't work with the companies that employ them to keep their jobs. </sarcasm>

It was too good to last

So my dream of a 5500 Mega-Cab long bed just went "poof"...

Maybe those Sterling Bullets will be a collectors item someday, kind of like a REO.

I was over at my friend's place of business today & we were discussing the closing of the Sterling Plant locally in St. Thomas, ON Canada.

He mentioned that one of his business buddies told him that Daimler Chrysler wanted the employees at the St. Thomas Sterling Plant to take lower wages last year, because truck sales were slowing down & the work was not there anymore.

The Union said NO! So, the workers just "moved slower" to "stretch-out" the day! Daimler Chrysler said "FU" & built the Plant in Mexico!

As much as I hate to see jobs moving out of the Country, the auto workers & their Unions have been screwing themselves out of their jobs for years.

Nobody deserves $30+/hr. for their time on an assembly line. Many of the Skilled Trades don't make that kind of money!
