So, that thing about putting a blown alcohol motor with front wheel drive in the 08 Rams could be a rumor???

I could have sworn that Jeep was going to put a version of the Bluetech diesel enginge in a Grand Cherokee in 08. I can't remember where I heard it though, I think maybe on some car show or something, not sure. Just stick in my head for some reason.

Obviously you have yet to hear about the joint venture between, Kubota, Cummings, Mercedes and the kids from "The Blair Witch Project" are designing a new 7 cylinder flat head diesel with a 1 cylinder Echo 2 stroke air cooled pony motor for starting and "auxillary power" it's rumoured to get 75 MPG (combined city and highway) if run on peanut oil and a prayer.............

Likely available in 2011 models of D.C products and H.D Motorcycles.

It's going to be primarily marketed to the parents of school aged children as the exhaust is rumoured to smell like Reeses' Pieces

I read somewhere they were going to use some sort of wireless technology to link the engine to the rest of the drive train. Blue-tooth maybe? Suppose to be able to lessen the drag on the engine resulting in higher MPG.
Sounds cool.

This is not true. The contract is in place long term and goes far beyond 2008. The Cummins will be around for a while.

jack is right, but the cummings as you know it will be forever changed. it will have 4 hamsters on a wheel for battery charging, instead of throttle and brake pedals, there will be bicycle pedals(gotta stop this american obesity) towing capacity will be measured in stones, and it is so flexible fuel friendly, that they will recommend running it on suntan oil to maximum economy.

please shut down this thread because I am out of control.

THAT'S IT! I have had it, if Ford is finally yanking the contract out from under DC becuase they want the Cummings motor for their PowerChokes, then I'm moving to Pennsylvania and changing my name to Brother Jebediah. I'm going to grow a long brown beard, and wear one of those funny hats that looks like a plate with a big lump in the middle of it. AHHHH, Amish life is the way of the future my friends................wait, THAT WOULD MEAN NO DTR FORUMS never mind

these "buddies" at dealerships... when i roll by a DC dealer arent these the same people who tell me that my engine sounds out of tune..that my "lifters" are bad that i should have it checked ...only to tell him it was a diesel (yes this happened) ...or another salesman when i came in asking about my timing told me the sputtering and blue smoke in morning might be my spark plugs and that i should really think about changing them (yes that happened too)...

Well, I wouldn't be bit supprised to see one of those v6 Cummins engines on a bike within a couple years after they come onto the market. As soon as they start hitting the junk yards SOMEBODY will just have to do it.

maybe I'll convert my truck to steam when they come a repo my cummings out of it. or maybe a gas turbine. you know that would be cool.
There is a guy around New Iberia, LA that has a turbine in a 1/2 ton Chevy. It is a little Allison out of a Helicopter. The problem with turbines is maintenance costs. If you don't need all of the power and are only loafing it they are not cost efficient. You need to be running them at 70-80% or higher loads to make them worth it. Also the weight needs to be a factor. Our GE LM2500+'s are an Aeroderivitive that are pumping out about 20 Megawatt of power. Wow, how did I get this far off the subject? Oh yeah! Did you hear that Dodge will no longer have Cummins engines. They will have Detroit Diesels. Follow closely now. DC owns EMD and MTU, EMD used to be owned by Detroit Desiel which was owned by GM before they sold it to Penske. Are you still with me? OK, Now I heard that Penske has sold DD. I have it on good word from the guy who lives down the road and cleans pools for a living that DC bought DD. If you notice, almost all Freightliners, which are built by DC come with a DD. See the connection. Now I don't know about you but I think that a little downsized 12.7L 60 series would be pretty sweet in a Ram.

All of these "Sources" that work at Dodge dealerships are also the same idiots that try to put junk lift pumps in our fuel tanks

I knew an A/C contractor that traded in his F**d for an '03 Ram (new) because it had the Mercedes diesel in it
after he had it a few months, with me asking to pop the hood - he sheepishly admitted that he'd been duped by the (salemans?) claims...

... there's one born every minute!

One thing my father told me years ago that I'll never forget ..... son, there will always be more horses a es than there ever will be horses. I think this is true. And 90% of them sell cars. Sorry, that was rude. My appologies to those offended by my rude remarks.
