General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

I am a Nissan man myself but I WILL NOT HAVE THAT DIESEL TRUCK with the Navistar V-8 Diesel engine. Nissan Diesel trucks have already failed.......

would it basically be a powerstroke under a different name from navistar?

seriously, you would think the Nissan engineers would have seen the problems that powerstrokes/international V8's have had in the past and wanted to avoid it.

Now hold on everyone. Let's not jump to too many conclusions! First of all, the power stroke problem is as much Ford as Int. Navistar made the 6.0-6.4 to Ford specs. 7.3 and earlier were Int. specs. See the difference? Just like Infinity makes the speakers for Dodge at Dodge specs. They are certainly not as good as their own public offering speakers for economics sake. Having said that, Nissan has made successful diesels for many years. In Japan, their heavy duty industrial engines are popular. Heavy truck engines too. Medium duty too. They have had light duty diesels in their Patrols for a very long time. Not really powerful but will last a long time and are very reliable. So with all that, why are they not building their own?? GM has certainly had a lot of success in building diesels, and has the resources to do so, yet Isuzu builds the Duramax. Why? Nissan has a relationship with Ford as Toyota does with GM. I wonder if that has something to do with the Navistar choice? There are a lot of questions yet to be answered-- It is clear to remain in the truck market that Nissan wants to beat Toyota to the diesel market. Like they did to the full size market with the Titan. It worked. I'm guessing that for timing and economics they are doing this until they can make their own. All I am saying is reserve judgement until we see the actual product and see what it does-- over time. Besides-- why the heck worry about it?? It's still not a CUMMINS!

It seems like the relationship between Ford and Navistar is becoming increasingly hostile. Maybe they are looking for a new home for their engines.

there are a dozen reasons a dt466 would never go in a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup. Yeah it would be cool.....but think about it, in the big picture it doesnt make sense logistically. Its too heavy. Too big. Too expensive. Emmissions. etc...

I'm not sure if the article said it or not, but most likely the diesel will go in a 1/2-ton truck, just like Ford and Dodge are doing with their 1/2-tons. If I were in the market for a 1/2-ton diesel I'd look seriously at it. I loved my '04 Titan.

Well I am a Nissan tech and have been hearing about a diesel titan sence they came out in 03 as an 04 model. at that time they wanted all the dealers to upgrade to handle the bigger trucks. The deadline for was spoes to be the start of the 07 model year but as many dealers have had truble geting permits and funds to upgrade, most haveing to build totaly new buildings, they ahve extended this to 2009 model year. As far as useing the Int. motor over a Jap motors is simple they are asembeld in the states and there for they would not have to ship these engines over from japan. As far as specs go for the engine we ahve been told it was going to be a inline 6 then a V8, and should range in displacement from 4.5-5.5l. I will belive that they are bringing it out when I see it hit the showroom floor and/ or they send us to training to work on them. Most of the techs I work with think disels have sparkplugs, well not realy but you get the point. We will see but one thing is for sure, it will have brake problems and will be under built like every one of there cars and trucks, I know I work on them all day long.

Couldn't build a pickup for a reasonable price thet would have a suspension or brakes to handle such weight. Great engine for larger trucks, not so great for automotive applications.

This "UPDATE: Mike Levine at Pickuptruck.com spoke with Nissan spokesperson John Schilling who told him, "We haven't announced anything about a diesel engine for the Titan. This news is speculation at this point, but we are continuing to study this technology for potential future use. The only vehicle we've said that will have a diesel engine is the Maxima in 2010."" was copied from the same basic article at autoblog.com

So it looks as if the writers are trying to make news again.............
