New Fleetguard filter
Starting on March 1st many of Fleetguard's more popular oil and fuel filters will be available with a plastic polymer case instead of metal that is designed to be more end user friendly. The first ones made will be oil and fuel filters for Cummins 5.9-, 8.3- and 8.8-liter diesels, which are the biggest volume automotive and industrial models built by Fleetguard

Interesting.
The threads are plastic too. I like that it stand up on it's own, that would make it nice for filling with oil.
I'm sure this polymer is pretty heat resistant, ya think?
I like to write my mileage and date on my filter, this would be tough to do with a Sharpie on a black plastic filter....
Mine go on as tight as I can get them by hand and ALWAYS come off by hand, so the ratchet end isn't that impressive to me. If the filter was more accessible maybe, but on our trucks?
Guess I could get a white paint marker though.

Fleetguard Filter
I'm ready for those now from the looks of them. I wonder when they will get into the supply chain, and how much they will cost? I like the ability to remove it with a 1/2 inch drive. That beats the strap I use now. It would have to be easier though. But, I don't know about the "hand tight" thing. I torque mine down pretty good...I don't think I could get it off with a 1/2 inch drive.

I've never had a problem with mine, about 3/4 of a turn after it snugs has been fine for the last 2 years (and every other vehicle I've had)
You have to consider how thick that rubber is, it compresses pretty well.
