New EPA Regulation

I see that as of today the EPA has proposed a new regulation that will lower the sulphur content in diesel fuel to 500ppm by 2007 and 15 ppm by 2010.

I think the current level is 3400 ppm.

Also they are adding cats to all future diesels.

what will this do to our current diesel engines in terms of lublication ?

Will we have to use an additive to replace the sulphur ?

That's old news. We're already using that (low sulphur) fuel. The article was about off-road diesel fuels. The red dye stuff that earthmovers and farm tractors use.

The refiners have kept right up with adding lubricity back to diesel as the sulfur levels come down.
Not too good for repeat customers if the fuel ruins your engine right?

The lower lubricity doesn't come from the lower sulfur itself but rather from the process that removes it. Sulfur in itself adds nothing to diesel performance/quality, but removing it will cost us more at the pump.
