Question New Cummins Series

Does anyone have any visibility on the upcoming Cummins turbo 5.6 V8, 4.2 V6 and 2.8 I4 engines? From what I've heard, they are supposed to be ready for 2010 (or late 2009?) Dodge, Jeep and (maybe) Chrysler vehicles.

Haven't heard of the 2.8 I4, I would love to know more.

I have a cousin who deals with Cummins as an OEM supplier, he still swears the V6 is not coming, only the V8. I don't believe he has it straight though.

A 2.8 I4 would be really nice!

I read about the I-4 diesel engine some place on line about a year ago and IIRC it was going to be used in the mini vans. I read that the V6 is for the SUV and a few cars and V8 are for the 1500 trucks.

I'm sure that they're working on the V8 and the V6 and am hoping that what I've heard about the I4 is correct. That would be a great fit for the Liberty!

Yes I do, I see them at least once every other week. They will be ready for the 2010 my. I don't know anything about the 2.8 I4 engine. I would be interested in reading about it if any of you all have any information on this engine please post it.

I read about the 2.8 somewhere and kinda remember them saying that they were partnering up with someone else to build it, I think maybe in brazil. I can't remember where I read it though.

"Cummins, the world's biggest diesel engine maker, said on Friday it has clinched a deal with Chinese truck producer Beiqi Foton Motor to create an engine joint venture in Beijing.

The two sides plan to invest a total of 2.5 billion yuan (US$316 million) in the 50/50 joint venture, which has registered capital of 1 billion yuan (US$126 million), Cummins said.

The venture, which will start to make Cummins 2.8 and 3.8-litre diesel engines in 2008, will have an annual production capacity of 40,000 engines, according to the US engine group."

Let's put it this way, they have the capacity to build them. They do have a few of them floating around. As far as what they are going in I have no idea. I just know that they are going to Chrysler.

I'm not certain, but I think that the engines which will be built by the JV in China will be sold in China and the far east, rather than being imported to the States. Hopefully, they'll be building the 2.8 (along with the V8 and V6) in Columbus. From what I've heard, it will essentially be half of the 5.6 V8.

Cummins 2.8L for 2008

not sure if it helps, but the 2.8 has been around for a while as a hp marine application. as i understand it, cummins will be relocating its eu plant to china as a centralized manufacturing facility in this joint effort. reducing labor, overhead, and expense to gain additional profit.

i know we all love cummins more or less equally, but they are a corporation and are driven by the almighty dollar like everyone else...

i copied this link from cummins on the 2.8l hp.
