Need some thoughts/opinions

As of 9:36 am eastern time monday aug. 16th 2009, I had made a deal to purchase a Dodge cummins truck. Very sharp truck that i liked alot. Made the deal with the guy, he told me he wanted to switch out the mirrors witch was fine with me and take off the toolbox. So the deal was said and done. I was going to pick up the truck with the money in hand on tuesday. Few minutes later I called the insurance company and got them to quote and get insurance set up for tuesday when i bring the truck home. All was good and I was very happy untill 2:13 pm on the same that same day the deal was made, I recieved a call from the seller, and he said that he had bad news, and he led on to say that he doesn't want to sell the truck to me. He said it was because he couldn't find anything else he wanted. And said he couldn't afford a new truck payment. (even though he had 2010 Chevy camro and a corvette in his garage). So it sounded to me that I got screwed out of a deal and the guy has had the thing up for sale for a couple months. I would have thought he should have had his ride after selling his truck lined up a long time ago. I kind of thought a done deal, was a done deal. I know he didn't have my money in hand.i been there the day before and looked at it. To me what he did just wasn't right, and i hope i don't just sound like some wineing kid. I just felt that if i was willing to give the money then he could hold to his end of the deal and sell. I just hope he doesn't put it back up for sale and screw over someone else. He lost all my trust. Just askin for some thoughts on the whole deal. Thanks

Was he advertising on Craigslist? j/k

It's rare to have a seller back out like that. At least you didn't leave him with some earnest money when you first struck the deal.

You can also hope that there's a better one waiting.

what he did was not favourable, being a last minute decision.

on the other hand, it is still his truck and he has every right to back out prior to money and papers changing hands. regardless of the reasoning.

your right - it sucks that it happened to you, now you just don't do business with him again i guess.

forget about it, move on and keep looking - maybe this is a blessing in disguise and you will get a more desirable truck for a better deal!

Thought maybe he would have just been a man and stuck with the deal, if he didn't have a vehicle lined up after he sold his truck thats his fault not mine. Not like we were dealing with a low price on this truck either. He was selling it to me for only 500 dollars less then what he was asking, with no tow mirrors and toolbox took off.
And to be honest, the truck was listed on this site.

been looking for months now and i keep getting told there are better ones everytime i go to look at one haha

and i do respect that it was still his truck. But what he did was a little dirty seems to me.
I guess if it was me i wouldn't tell somebody, "yea it's a deal, i will clean it up agian, change the mirrors and take off the toolbox, see you tomorrow" then call them back and say "nevermind i'm not selling it" but thats just me

You did nothing wrong and life is not fair!
May this be the worst let down in your many years to come! (seriously.... not being sarcastic).
Most people are not like that... but you really have no control over what ANY other person does!
Learn from this.... stay positive... and move on.

That happened to me when I was 15 1/2 years-old and tried to buy my first truck, a blue 1968 1/2 ton Chevy step-side in cherry shape, $900. Had my mom take me back the next day with the cash and he said "son, I've just had this truck too many years (since new), I changed my mind- can't let it go- I'm going to keep it as long as I live".

I understood, but as you can tell, I'm still not over it. Every time I see one of those trucks going down the road or sitting in someone's back yard, I yearn for the day.

Your seller's excuse was just lame IMHO.

Any time you're buying or purchasing tangible property such as vehicles, or anything over $500 for that matter...

It is best to get it in writing!

Have it include the mirror and toolbox removal, in your example. Take pictures before anything is removed, that way in case something is damaged, or removed that shouldn't have been, it will hold up if you have to pursue legal action.

Good luck on finding your next truck.

Thanks for all the good opinions fellas, it was hard to take that he just turned around and didn't want to sell all of a sudden, but i guess there are people like that out there. The ones that turn around and hit you in the back when your not looking, and being 19 years old looking for my first real "nice" truck it hit me harder then others.

Sorry to hear that - i thought it was going to happen with the Saab I bought for college at 20 years of age. The owner was really attahced - he had 4 other Saabs as well, and i really suspected he might try to back out. He didn't and actually offered to buy the car back from me three years later. What i do regret is that i actually never contacted him prior to trading that car in. it's likley been crushed years ago.

As someone else said - get it in writing if you need to! Good luck - be patient, what you are driving now is a lot better than what I had at 19...

Now days it doesn't matter if it's in writing really, if you haven't made the payment or any kind of deposit made, the seller can back out of the deal if he so wishes. People have done it to me, and I've done it once too. I listed 3010 mule 4x4 and a guy called said he wanted it told me to hold it for him. Day later another guy calls me told me $2000 he would come get it, I said come on. "Money talks" I cant take your word, just as much as you can't take mine, unless cash is in hand! The guy was furious when he called two days later and I told him it was sold. My brother and his boss are in process of buying a $35,254,000 ranch 7500acres it was in writing and the dude backed out bcause the surveyor found that it was really 7900acres and the seller wants to sell lots out of it. They been in court since may 2006

It's a raw deal. You will have many worse in life.
Expand your search to other areas, geographicly. Texas is a good place to look for trucks. Check out both Craigs list & EBAY. You will find a better deal!
Good Luck!!
