Otherwise I'm doing like 40-45mpg.
Yah, I keep it the track now. Or I would if I still had it. Last year I owned it I didnt ride on the street once, just the track. I was just plan stupid on the street.

I can tell you that my truck is stock, but my overhead tells me I am getting 28+ mpg. Now I HC so I know that is BS; I'm getting between 20 & 22 depending on how I drive and the fact that the truck is unloaded.

I always got around 40 MPG on my bikes, whether it was a 1300 or a 600.

The exception was my SV1000, which got low 30's IIRC. But what a beast that thing was!!

My overhead computer said I was getting 98.5 MPG once.
I was going down a mountain in Montana, about 15 miles, and I reset the computer at the top!

This has to be one of the more realistic mpg threads I have found online. It seems that in the internet world everyone gets 20+ mpg from their cummins so naturally I was expecting that when I bought my 97 last spring. The first thing I realized was that my truck had 4.10's and I had to drive really slow to keep the rpms below 2000. Unfortunately this was really hard so I have since swapped the 4.10's for 3.54's. Anyway - I have kept a spreadsheet of hand calculated mileage since I bought it and to date my average is just over 15 mpg. The best was 17.8 hwy empty on a 300 mile trip - the worst was 11.9 with my camper and Jeep. I am really hoping that the new gears will bump my average up to 17 or 18 - and that I can get 20+ on the highway. Time will tell I guess.

Buahaha...

I would be happy if my truck could get even 13mpg.

With 8" of lift, six 37x12.5 tires and a 300 pound bumper on the front isn't making it any better!

A kid at work has an 02 F250 4x4,7.3, auto with 6" lift and big tires, he told me he gets 20
I was recently riding with another guy from work who has the same truck except all stock and stock sized Michelin M/S, he has an overhead. As we were driving around I was watching the overhead, it read 14.2, I asked him if it
was accurate and he said it was pretty close, he had checked it a few times by hand calculating.

I too get very good mileage from my truck. But it depends a lot on the weather.
In the summer I seem to get anywhere from 65 to 78 MPG. In the fall, usually around 40-45. In the winter it is the worse, usually around 5-10, and sometimes 0 and even -10! I don;t quite understand it but on average, over a year, I think it is about 18.
Oh wait, is it not Fuel Mileage there, on the overhead, next to the compass?... It does say "F" after the number but I always thought the "F" stood either for "Fuel" or for some bad word

7.3's get pretty good mileage. I had a 97 E-350 Crestline Ambulance, and it weighed 9700lbs empty, with the aerodynamics of a giant brick. If held at 60mph, it would pull an actual 20mpg over a 600 mile trip .

A friend of mine's father has a 91 Ram 3/4 ton 2wd. He gets an actual 28mpg on long highway trips(he drives the speed limit). It is completly stock. Of course it is probably weighs 2000lbs less than mine, and makes 1/2 the power.

I actually got 25mpg this summer with my truck over a 300 mile leg. I drove at 65mph, and there was an actual 40mph tailwind the whole way. I got only 14mpg on the return leg going into the same wind!

BTW, my overhead is reasonably accurate(I hand calculate at every fill as well), but I have to do the conversion for taller tires and no reflash.

We have a 97 F superduty utility unit that weighs 13,500 loaded. It gets a whopping 4mpg on average. Most of thats emergency travel though.

The Jetta in sig. now has about 16,000 miles life time average 43.1 mpg. That's motorcycle mileage!! Trucks not as good, they range from 13 to 21 depending on load, speed and terrain.

I worked for a guy from time to time and drove a F450 with a 7.3 6spd and they only come with 4.88 or 5.13 rear. pulling a 36ft long 12ft tall inclosed trailer with heavy electical motors and equip. It would hardly hold 70mph on flat ground and on the slightest hill would drop to 55 and on one good hill it was 2st gear 25mph at the top. It got 3.2 mpg He finaly took my advice and got a Kenworth, N14, 13spd, and 53ft van trailer that gets 6.8 making the same trip a lot faster and the truck cost half what the F 450 did. I have never seen a over head on a dodge that was less that 3MPG over what it realy was even stock.

Lots of it has to do with whether the truck is a 2wd, 4wd, single wheel, dual wheel, reg cab/club/quad/mega, load, gearing, driving habits and fuel quality.
My mileage does vary with fuel brand. My favourite right now is the off brand diesel, it does give me better mileage, I am wondering if its a weather blend or not.
My truck is a 12v, bone stock, 2wd, reg cab auto with 3.55's that has been maintained to the T. It had a roll away bed cover on the back and last summer it delivered 28 mpg on a unloaded highway trip, right now loaded with a work canopy on it, its in the 20 mpg range average, thats hand calculated in US gallons. Sometimes a little more sometimes a little less. It all depends on warm up time, and where I am going.
There are a lot of cummins out there only getting 14 mpg as well, it depends on mileage, mechanical wear, and load. I have talked with a lot of guys down in the teens, and when people lift a truck 8" and stick 36's on them its going to hurt mileage. You can't have your cake and eat it to, and when people are buying dually 1 ton 4x4 quad cabs, you cant expect to get car like mileage.
It takes fuel to make power as well, 325 hp takes more fuel to make than a 160 hp, yes there has been efficiency gains, but its magic, you need fuel to make power, thats why on average the lower hp trucks get better mileage.
Also, I think Manafacturers numbers are suspect.. The older sprinter I had delivered twice the mileage of the newer sprinter, and in reality, the older had more pulling power, yet on paper, it wasnt supposed to be like that.

Well I still lots of numbers here I find very hard to believe. I guess I am the biggest sceptic. I get about 14.5 mpg imp which is 12 US. That driving in Town and a 8 mile comute. On the highway in the summer I have seen 18mpg imp 15.5 US. I see that some of you claim your driving your trucks almost 700 miles on a tank. thats like 1100 kms. If I get close to 800kms on the highway Im so happy, but also praying for a station close by. Maybe I should let the wife drive she manages 40 on the highway with our Jetta 1.8 turbo, I get just over 30 with it.
