My FASS lift pump died. You'll never guess why.
Last week I hopped into the truck to go to work and 10 minutes later I'm on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck. (I got towed by a Ford, Oh the humanity)
Got it home and started diagnostics, The lift pump wasn't running and it kept popping fuses.
The pump is about 6 years old so no warranty. I figured I had nothing to lose by popping it open. When I had the top aluminum plate off everything looked fine. but the rotor would not budge. I popped the motor off and it turned fine.
Turns out a tiny biege piece of rubber got sucked in and jammed the rotor.
It came from the FLEETGUARD Filter!!
The screen filter between the tank and the pump. The little crimped can with a inlet and outlet... Well the crimping also has a squirt of silicone rubber sealer too.
I never would have bet that it would have fallen apart but I sheared of the outlet side and looked into the can and saw ragged biege rubber around the center union.
I had noticed a couple of times that the lift pump sounded a little funny but the sound went away. I'm betting that the sound was smaller bits of sealer making it through the rotor. I'm doing an oil and filter change today and I'll have to look at the FF to see if any bits are in it.

This is the reason that Cummins recommends not to use cheap filters like Purolator etc...... The oil flow is strong on these motors and they will suck the cheap sealant out of the cheap filters......Why that happened on a Fleetguard, I do not know?
