Most Overpriced Vehicles - Dodge Ram Tops the List
#16
Not disagreeing about overpricing, I think all cars/trucks are overpriced for what we get anymore... but when I purchased my Ram in Dec '06, it was thousands less (sticker) than both the Ford and Chevy equivalent..... and on top of that - Dodge had better incentives and were more willing to deal... that is just from my personal experience and not trying to generalize....

Yeah I priced fords and could only get an xlt 2wd for the same price I got bh/slt 4x4 ram. The 4x4 fords and gms are way overpriced. I don't even know how ford sells king ranches that's a lot of extra money for a fender badge.

Just going back a bit, I looked at a new '01 Chebby crew cab 4x4 3/4 ton with duramax and leather. It was over $43k on the sticker then. Went to Dodge, where I did buy my '01 2500 4x4 Sport, and couldn't price a loaded 3500 all optioned for $41k. Paid $32k for the 3/4 ton. IIRC my rebate was $1500 then. They're practically giving them away now aren't they?
p.s aren't Grand Marquis and Buick's mandatory only after a certain age? They do ride great though.

I don't get it. The Grand Marquis is over priced? You can pick up a brand new Grand Marquis LS for $18,000. You can also pick up one that is loaded with leather for $24,000. It is the only V8 rear wheel drive car out there that is still body on frame construction. I think I should know about those cars because I own two of them right now. I got rid of another 4 years ago. Both my brothers own one apeice too. That is four of those cars between three of us. If you are looking for a used Grand Marquis the price has been going up a little lately because they are shipping all of the used ones over seas to the arib countries. But you can buy a used Lincoln Town car for cheaper than a Grand Marquis. The people that wrote the article are ate up. I went to the Dodge dealership three months ago and could pick up a Hemi 1/2 ton 4 door 4x4 truck for $24,000 and that was well equiped brand new. Ford still wanted 8 thousand more for theirs.

I'm inheriting Mom's 1986 Dodge Aries 4 dr sedan.
Garage kept w/ 32,000 original miles.
Hard to be stylin' n profilin' in an Aries........
But it gets 20+ mpg City on regular unleaded.

I think this statement probably takes the Ram off the list:
I'm sure that most people who buy Ram CTDs, like myself, plan on driving it for as many years as they can get out of the truck. In that case, you don't spread the cost over 5 years, but over a much longer period, which in the case of our trucks, is definitely good value for the money.

One final metric that warrants mention: length of ownership. Robert Smith, manager of car information products at Consumer Reports, says that even if the automaker's piling on the incentives and the residuals are embarrassingly low, it's actually not overpriced if you plan to keep the vehicle for a long time.

This is probably directed at those people who walk into a dealership and pay STICKER for any vehicle they like. You CAN price out a Hemi 1500 to almost $40k, but that doesnt mean its worth that. Just remember the old saying. "Theres a sucker born every minute."
