more powerstrokes makes them better???

Ive been on a ford truck website lately for my 79 ford. Wandered into their powerstroke section and found a topic: took on a cummins today. Ive already talked about this on here, but now theyve started attacking me with some stupid sayings:

Cummins should be runnin, removed by admin Cummins a good motor but I still say PowerStrokes better, I see more, new and old.

Make any sense? I like the last part... "Powerstrokes are better: I see more"
So if there were more, which I doubt, that makes them better????

I've been trying to figure out the same "they sell more diesels than GM and Dodge combined so they must be better" arguement for awhile now, brother. I don't get it.

Is there any hard numbers out there for the diesel sales? Gm sold alot of diesels to the gov. for a long time but most ppl don't get to see those. i would like to see some hard numbers on that.

Oh, they DO sell more...LOTS more, please believe. But that is because the military and all SORTS of other fleets want them because their base models are the cheapest to be had, especially when you get a fleet discount on them. With that in mind, Ford experienced a pretty devastating blow last year in record losses because of their Powerstrokes. I would never purchase one, epsecially a new one, but my buddy lucked out couple days ago and found an 02' with a 7.3 with only 72k on it that I can't call a bad truck.

this is his reply to me asking why more is better

"Dinint say more = Better. more, have lasted longer. I know of a 99PSD with 597,000 kms. Dodge is good. you like the look its alight. they all get a job done. Fords styll got a edge on them, with the F-450."

sounds smart doesnt he?

Yeah, he sounds like a real winner bud. I don't doubt that he knows somebody with 597km (that is roughly 371,000 MILES if you don't know the conversion) so that truck, though it's earned it's keep, still isn't close to what I have seen on MANY Cummins motors. I have heard of, seen and know of MANY Cummins over the half million mile marker. The 7.3 was and still is a very good, very reliable motor. Ask him when the last time he saw a 6.0 over a half million, however and he will draw a blank. Also, why would we need an F-450 when we can do the same job with a 3500? hehe

Man they are touchy about their trucks. I told them I was just defending my truck and not bashing fords and they lost it...so I asked him what you recommended. They are dying over it...guess they know the truth...

According to cummins sales, the b series engines have in 5 years outsold all other industrial engines by 27 %, the only one being remotly close is the fuzo from mitb. Now this includes all uses of the 4b and 6b in trucks and equipment. As per cummins the engine itself (not components)has produced a 97 % useable life 6 times the warranty period. Now this doesnt include the larger engines as the 8.3 and others. I dont know about ford or chevy but thats one heck of a track record, ford and chevy have a long way to go to live up to it.

I was just about to post that very thing!!! Just because somebody sells more of something doesn't make it better. McDonald's definately does not make the BEST burger, but they do make Billions and Billions of them annually!

ask them why ford and navistar are in a very bitter lawsuit against each other right now
ford withheld money on navistar because the warranty costs on the 6.0 were way over projected costs

I'm a Ford guy obviously but that McDonalds analogy does not fly. Since when did anyone pay between 30 and 50K for a hamburger!
