they made them in under\overdrives in different ratios the 2000 is rated lbs. they are out of ca. i think you can write or call them and find out about it. the one i had you had to be stopped to shift it back to underdrive. but you could go from under to overdrive without stopping.

^^^^^ Correct. The model 2000 signifies a 20,000 lb GCWR. The "a" part means it's set up as 28.6% overdrive and 1:1 direct.

Assuming you have 3.73 gears, this would effectively give you a 2.66 rear end when the Mitchell OD was engaged.

Their phone number is 1-800-859-2088.

Why would you want one?
More weight and more frictional losses will equal less mpg.
Are parts even available for them anymore?
I thought they were antiques.

You would want one because they were arguably the most robust OD units ever produced.

More weight (84 lbs for the largest 35,000 gcwr unit) is not very significant. The frictional losses are negligable compared to fuel mileage savings of lower rpm. Moreover, engine longevity and lower noise cruising are some other benefits.

Some parts are still available, some aren't.

The units made for Dodge trucks were last produced in about 1995. I don't know if that makes them antiques or not. Mitchell Manuracturing does make a variety of OD units for antiques though! In fact, there is such a market for them, they are currently about 8 weeks behind in production!

Because if you have 4.10 gears and don't want to change them out is why some one would get an auxiliary transmission or an overdrive unit.

...and it lets you keep your 4.10 gears for when they're really needed, and have a economy rear end for when unloaded!
