Kyle , I should have talk to you last month and done some trading with you. We just sent 53 8.3 to be crushed , all P pump and aftercooled that came out of school buses. some of them were low time recon. That 6x6 should handle the weight of the 8,3 no problem.

You can pick up a Kaiser deuce and a half 6X6 in Idaho for around 4,000.00 there is a car lot that specializes in them right outside of Boise can't remember the name. I am purchasing from Military auction my wife is a ssg so I can go on post and see what is available or coming out for bid. The only downside is all the paperwork once you win the bid it could be a year before you can pick it up. You have to go through the process of filing for a end use certificate which basically says this vehicle was used in war, we the united states army is not liable for anything that could happen to you, this vehicle may have been exposed to chemical agents etc etc.
The upside is you can pick one up pretty cheap and if you don't care whether or not it runs, like me you can score one for less than 2000.00. All the trucks at that dealership in Boise are in excellent running condition. The cool things about these trucks is you wont find one with more than 20k miles on them and 600 hours on the engines they spend the whole life just idling or sitting in a motorpool the one I am bidding on has 7k and 500 hours on the engine. It is over 20 years old.

Most big military bases have a DRMO (Defense Marketing and Reutilization Office). All material that is processed for auction goes thru them. Could be a regional office such as what we have at Ft Knox.
Check the net under DRMO. There are loads of different sites. Also check with the local Military bases. Call public affairs or information.
On a side note, I bought 2 M-35's about 20 years ago. One was parts, the other almost new. Dad used them on the farm for years till we sold the place. Never had to do anything but normal service. Mom sure did hate riding in it tho. Talk about a turbo scream.

I understand these people have a contract to handle all government property sales.
A word about things that require an "end use certificate", of which the trucks probably do. I bought an aqueous cleaner last summer and it took months to wade thru the paperwork.

You need one of those 1.5 ton trailers to make a matched set.
I've thought about buying one just to get the drivetrain for a Cummins conversion. I've got no place to put it if I did get it though.

Govliquidation.com is where you want to go Drmo is for the military only. This is how it works, The units decide they dont want or need the item anymore so it is transfered to DRMO. The item will sit at DRMO up for grabs to any other unit who might want the item if nobody is interested it is sold to auction contractor at scrapping price. If nobody bids and buys on item it is then sold for scrap to a salvage yard. You can buy almost anything from these guys Cranes, Semi's, Turbine Engines for Helicopters, cars, Trucks, ships. You can no longer buy Humvees or army Jeeps they are cut up and ran over by bulldozers.

If you do get a 2.5ton what kind of plates, Ins., and Lic. do you need. A CDL?? I think i have a new project developing in my head.
How would you go about shipping or do you pick it up your self? And what kind of running condition are they in? I would think that they are well maintained.

I considered the idea of owning a deuce and a half a few years ago. But before I discovered what was possible with a 5.9, I wanted to install a Cummins M11. To deal with the extra low gearing in the axles (6.72:1) I would have to install a 13 speed, double over to get some kind of drivability on the road. Unfortunatetly the engine and tranny combo is very heavy and I'd fear the front end would plow with the original grave digger tires.

i have bought 15 duece and a halfs over the past few years. a 350 hp 5.9 would make one rock. they only have 160hp stock. i would suggest a better tranny than the stock one, it has a screwed up shift pattern. the 1968 on up trucks have rockwell axles, with the u joints so no worries. i have one complete winch truck at the house, i just use it when nothing else will pull something out. and it makes one great mobile platform to work off of. in texas you don't need a cdl to drive one, but other states may be different. and here i can buy military collector tags for 55 bucks or so for five years. they use divorce transfere cases so any 2wd tranny will work. if i had my motor in a duece and a half it would run down the freeway just fine. 2500 rpm is 55mph or so. i have one complete truck left to sell, it runs and drives but need a alternator.

You can go over to this web page and ask more questions: M37 Forum
There's a guy on teh M37 forum that goes by "MSeriesRebuild". His name is Charles Talbert and he rebuilds and modifies all types of Military vehicles. He might give you some pointers on a Cummins 5.9 or 8.3 swap for an old M35. His web site is www.mseriesrebuild.com
