i like it! this summer when i spoke to the toyota engineers at the county fair (they were taking 1/2 tundras all around the country) they swore up and down it would have a cat diesel. then i read in print it was a hino diesel, which i see that it is!

It looks like a joke, maybe i'm just a diehard cummins fan. But at 8.0litre and 300hp and 600tq thats pretty weak if you ask me.

But think what an 8.0 liter could handle power wise?? Has to start low so they can use the same powerplant for the next 20 years and have an increase in power each year...

I Like It! other than the crappy looking rims... Do not like the looks of the 22.5s

I think that it looks OK...I also don't like the wheels being as big as they are...nor do I like the cab lights being as big as they are. I really like the front bumper/brush guard (if that is what comes stock) it is a LOT more durable than what comes stock with our trucks. I'm sure it will be a decent truck regardless. Toyota has VERY good customer service (for those who have never dealt with them, my wife has a Matrix and has NEVER had an issue at the dealership...as a matter of fact, her car has NEVER had to go there in the 3 1/2 years of owning it). 300/600 DOES sound like a good starting point, but coming out over 2 FULL liters larger than my stock motor and 25hp/10tq WEAKER doesn't please me much...they should have thought that through a little more in order to be competitive. Right now, that puts them 50hp/50tq lower than the average big 3...and lastly, I know that this appears to be a 4x2 model, but I am hoping that the 4x4 model doesn't share the same independent front suspension as this model does...NOT a fan of that.

Another idea of the low hp/tq may be not wanting to give the big 3 an insight as to what they are coming out with... who knows maybe they come to market with 400/750 out of the box... What then!?

I kind of like the looks of it but I think it would look better with 19.5's instead of the 22.5's or even try a class 3 before making this jump. The power issue really doesn't bother me. As was already stated, an engine of that displacement making that power will do it forever. That's an engine you could drive hard every day (2600 rpm redline). However, I think they're crossing lines of truck uses too much to the point that it lacks practicality. For one thing, a 2600 rpm engine needs more than 5 gears behind it. The engine is essentially derated to increase longevity however I highly doubt that the rest of the truck would last nearly as long, especially in the north with salt. I have no knowledge of this diesel engine but perhaps Toyota wanted this engine detuned because they didn't have a drivetrain combination that would last behind it otherwise (without just pulling it out of a much larger and heavier truck). I wonder what front drivetrain is in this truck because that engine is going to pound that front end mercilessly. Even with the detuned power ratings I'm skeptical about how good the mileage would be.

Honestly, by the time Toyota figures out how to pull off those kinds of numbers and puts it out with a truck wrapped around it for consumers to purchase, I think that the other big 3 will have done it too...nobody is THAT far ahead of the rest of the competition AND able to put it out in an affordable fashion

Toyota would put out those HP and TQ numbers as a baseline, something for the consumer to go by, Who would bother wedging a 8.0L Inline six and stayin with the conservative ratings of 300hp/600tq, the big 3 all produced trucks that made better numbers than that a few years ago.... I think by the time they are able to get to a stage to put this truck into production (if they ever do) I believe the numbers are going to be considerably higher, i would assume it would have to be at least 400hp/800tq thats just my opinion.....

Toyota makes an excellent product, If our american companies had half the engineers they do they wouldnt be stomping the american brands right now. Its a concept not finished product, it does have IFS looks like it anyway.

It kind of sounds like all they did is put a body on a Hino medium-duty commercial drivetrain... and commercial trucks generally value cost of operation and longevity over high HP numbers.

Honestly, and no disrespect, but I'd be willing to bet that Toyota is light years ahead of the Big 3 as far an engineering goes. I'd also be willing to bet that the Toyota truck will be more $$ than any of the Big 3. It is also very possible that they are starting with a 8.0l engine to help with emissions... kindof like somebody moving from a 5.9 to 6.7.

Another possibility would be Toyota knows they cant get this thing going soon and are planning for the Big 3 to be putting out even more impressive #s by the time the toyos hit the market... the 8.0l motor would be a good platform to expand on.

Just ideas who knows what's up!!

Of course it is all possible that this thing will never be sold in the states!
