Smile March Truck Of the Month Winner!

CONGRATULATIONS
goes out to
JStull
for being voted
March DTR Truck Of the Month

All of the nominated trucks were really great looking rigs and I must say I would be proud to have any of them sitting in the driveway. Of the three above,,,, I really like the Shorty and would love to do the same to my 99 2500 rather than buying a new truck. There have been many times I would loved to have had that BIG BLACK BEAST instead of my little 2WD that tends to get stuck on wet grass, not to mention it just plain looks mean. JStull's loooong truck would be really nice when we take the grandkids and four Micro-Mutts camping with the 5er as there would be plenty of room for everyone. Of course I would need very large pull-thru sites cause I don't think I would ever be able to back a 30 ft. 5er into a spot without running over something!

Congratulations again JStull

Truck Of the Month Procedure for 2008

The DTR TOM Staff has come up with a new procedure for choosing the TOM candidates.

* Starting Dec. 1st, 2007, we will post a thread with the winner for this month’s poll in the General Diesel Discussion section of the forums.

* At the same time, we will post a “TOM Candidate” thread in the same forum. In this thread we will announce the category of trucks that will be accepted as possible candidates. (1st Gen 250, 350, 2nd Gen 2500, 3500, 3rd Gen 2500, 3500, MegaCab, etc.)

* If your truck falls into the chosen category for that month and you would like to have a chance to be in the poll, then you can nominate your truck by posting a picture from your gallery in that thread.
* NOTE: The picture MUST come from your Diesel Truck Resource Member Photo Gallery! (Anything else will be deleted.)

* You can also list some of the mods and accessories on your rig in the same post. Please post only once in that thread because the TOM committee will select three trucks from that thread to be in the poll. The process for selecting the three candidates from this thread will be completely at random. If your truck is not selected for the poll or it is but it doesn't win, you may nominate it again when your category comes back around.

* Previous Winners of the TOM will not be eligible to participate. (Previous Winner being defined as truck and/or DTR Member)

* The “TOM Candidate” thread will be open from the 1st of the month until the 14th of the month. That gives you two weeks to submit your truck.

* At this time it will be locked, the three poll candidates will be chosen at random and the poll will be posted on the 15th . The poll will be voted on until the end of the month and we start all over again on the 1st of the next month by posting the winner in one thread and posting the “TOM Candidate” thread for the next month's category.

Special THANKS to Tim Barber at TRE Diesel Performance for sponsoring the TOM Award plaques!

Thank you very much, it's an honor to have the "big red limo" as the truck of the month.

I really liked the other trucks that were nominated and I would love to drive that big black dually anytime. Great job on the short bed dually too, the conversion looks like it could have come right out of the factory like that!

And yes, Rattlinram, it's not easy to get around in it. I just lost my driver side mirror pulling out of the garage and had to go to a smaller set of mirrors. The ***** just stuck out too far. The good thing is that my son can sit in his car seat and not kick me in the back as we go down the road. Plenty of room for all of us and the dog.

          Thanks again!!!!!

Congrats, Thats a great looking truck I'd love to have four full doors. It'd be great to get some info on how the trck came to be so loooong, like where it was done and how it was done. You said the doors were fiberglass right? How sturdy is the roof being so long, I know when I wash my quad cab Im carefull not to push to hard on the roof.

          Thank you all.

I'll try to give a rundown on how the truck was done.

It was converted back in 1995 by Custom Conversions in Cleburne Texas, I believe. It started as a regular cab. They did many of these conversions and had a mold to make fiberglass rear doors. There are a few parts that seem to be from the 1st gen crew cab Dodge trucks like the rear door glass and last year I put a new center support bearing on the driveshaft and it was out of a 1st gen Dodge. It makes finding replacement parts a little interesting, but not impossible. Inside, the rear door panels are cut down factory front panels. Power windows and locks front and rear.

Oh, and it has stainless polished nerf bars on it now. I bought them for an '06 mega cab and they fit great. Had to do some fab work on the mounts, but the step locations are perfect. My cab is within 1" of a mega cab so they worked out great.

          mopar-or-no-car,
The roof is fairly strong. It actually feels stronger than my old quad cab roof. The headliner was redone last fall and while it was out I could see that the roof is reinforced all the way back.

The frame is fully boxed from the front end all the way to the rear axle bend.

I have owned the truck since Nov. 2006.

So far we have done all of the engine work and front end work as it was basically stock when I got it. It had the worst death wobble of any 2nd gen I have ever driven. Don Thuren helped me fix that!

          Thanks again guys.
