get a can of this stuff, dump it in the tank or use it somewhere else, then tell them you added it to your fuel to lube the IP.
It'll turn your fuel red
I used to work a gas station way back in the day and they always had a jug or two of this stuff on the tank "to explain the red fuel"

If your fuel is any color other than the normal onroad color they will send it off to the lab where they can detect chemical tracers in the dye.
The revenuers are just as good as figuring out ways to cheat as the cheaters.
You can bet any way that people have found to dodge the laws they thought of first.
Some folks have said they get around it by dying their oil black with waste motor oil. Not only will they send the fuel off to sample for dye but in some states running waste oil carries a bigger fine than running red.

Won't work.

My self I would pay the road tax, keep the receipt handy and then be running 5-5 tanks with 5-10% Bio diesel, then change the fuel filter and hope all traces of the red dye are long gone.

In my state running red instead of onroad saves $18 per 35 gallon tank.
Assuming you fill up once a week that comes out to $946 savings for the year.
I once made a $1200 mistake on my taxes that ended up costing me $15,000 in the end.
Still think it's worth it?

i have ran colored diesel for a few years now maybe 120 gallons a month the only time i get real diesel is when im away from home i have never had any issues and i have never had my tank dipped. anyone here been pulled over and dipped ?
#36
Yep two or three times. Never had an issue, just pull over, guy does his thing and off I go. The first time I was nervous, even though I nothing to hide

There's a LOT of threads on this site about people who have been dipped, people who have been fined, etc. Here's one that doesn't even involve DYED fuel, just fuel other than taxed diesel:https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...0-t240817.html

Do they only sell off road diesel up north? I've never seen it in the 2 yrs I've been driving a diesel here in Dallas or in the panhandle nor on the way to Ft. Davis Tx. And is it the police that do the dipping? I'm just curious.

I imagine with all the state cutbacks to law enforcement that dipping isn't a high priority these days.
I know in Montana and Arizona they cut way back on dipping many years ago because it cost more to do than the fines paid for.
In Montana there are now only two guys in the whole state dipping and they hang out at the scales on the interstate looking at big rigs.
There used to be 32 dippers years ago.

Hey guys haven't checked this thread in awhile . I did not get checked an have ran many tank fulls of the clear stuff now . But just for my own curosity I changed the fuel filter the other day an I could see no trace of red . The filter was a dark color but all is good I guess .

Just a word of warning to anyone running red fuel, I know they have something that can read your exhaust while you sit at intersections. And if it catches that you have dyed fuel, it will photograph the vehicle and fine you. A friend of mine knows someone that this happened to in Meridian, Id. So be careful about running it.
