Soooooooooo - before this thread dies, if I may, can I hijack it with a quick Q? What causes ya'lls fuel filters to turn black? I change mine out every other oil change and I have never had a fuel filter come outta the can black. They are always pretty much the same color as they go in. So, why? why? why?

Thanks All

Mike

You may be getting really good diesel. My filters were always a little dark.

What is your change interval? What filters are you using?

Geez - currently paying $5.31 for an imperial gallon of fuel. I am really glad that it is finally warm enough to start using the motorbike again. Fuel filters are Fleetguard and the interval is every 12,000kms (every other oil change).

Cheers!

That's probably why, mine are black but unless I have an issue, I usually run 30,000 miles or more between changes.

It's from asphaltenes (google it) that are present and normal in all diesel fuel.

My filters are always black by the time I change them. Part of the fuel as infidel pointed out. When you get more of the heavier junk in there, change where you are buying fuel. Back when they changed over to the ULSD, I went through a couple filters in quick succession due to getting some shots of glop.

you are stashing offroad fuel for your easy chair old man. it would constitute "off road" since it won't be going on the highway! LOL

Not only is off-raod diesel dyed but is has 50ppm of Sulphur. On-road diesel (ULSD) has 15ppm of Sulphur. The Off-road diesel is what we used to run on the road. Keith

This and the continuous ultra high heat and cool cycles the fuel goes through from the HPCR.

get a can of this stuff, dump it in the tank or use it somewhere else, then tell them you added it to your fuel to lube the IP.

It'll turn your fuel red

I used to work a gas station way back in the day and they always had a jug or two of this stuff on the tank "to explain the red fuel"
