Question Magnets & Air Filters

1. Is using a filter magnet OK on a diesel.

http://www.filtermag.com/index.php

2. What is the thought on the AMSOIL Ea Air Filters (EaA)?

Sure, there's nothing special about diesels that would cause a filter magnet to be harmful.

Those are good quality filters. If you like 'em, use 'em.

Magnets only attract ferrous particles.

The bigger issue is stopping the silicon that makes up dirt; that's why you need a good filter!

As far as Amsoil air filters; they have as good a reputation as any other.

Very true.

I also love my EAA189 filter. I drive in a very dusty area where I live and my post airfilter tube always passes the white glove test!!

So with this filter the Eaa189 letting more air to pass will we have turbo issues? Does this filter better or worse then the factory filter?

Thanks for all the info every bit helps when you are new or tiring to make a choose on a product.

No turbo issues and it does filter better than a factory filter.

I think some people may be confused. The FilterMags don't have anything to do with filtering air...they're used on oil filters, fuel filters, etc.

I installed a clamshell filtermag on the outside of the 2-micron GDP fuel filter I added. I'm running a 7-micron in the factory canister, and a strainer before the Walbro pump.

The pictures below depict ferrous particles caught by the filtermag that made it past the other filters.

I've been using an ea since I bought my truck. Works great and now 9 yrs later I'm thinking about changing it out because it's looking a little worse for wear.

I'm sure the filtermags work great but they are pricey. Just get some neobedydum (sp?) magnets and stick em' to the filter and you'll get the same effect. I've got em' there and on my diffs and oil pan. There's a magnet store out there on the net, can't remember the name.

You use them on your fuel filter? I have them on my engine filter and my bypass but never thought of putting it on the fuel filter. You think there are ferous metal floting in our #2? In addition to a Baldwin 5u in the stock cannister, I have both a Fleetguard FF5320 and Cat 1R-0750 in series. Man if something still gets throu I'm in trouble.

The pictures I posted are the results from my Fleetgaurd 5320 2-micron fuel filter...and it's obvious there are ferrous metal particles that were caught!
