General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Bosch is experimenting with Bio-diesel and isn't to excited about it because of the amount of moisture bio can contain. They are also testing fuel filters for the common rail system and it looks like the injectors living much better with fuel filtered at the 2 micron level, but this is old news for many astute 3rd gen owners.
It's time to add one of those 2 micron CAT filters to my truck and use Stanadyne as usual .

My point was that ASTM is a worldwide standard! The Bosch report is excellent, good job there. The Conclusion page of the report you listed says that they need an "ASTM" lubricity standard ASTM D975 as soon as possible. I think we are on the same page here. The point of the report is to standardize a wear test method. Apparently labs there and here do "scuff" tests differently yielding different results using the same fuels! Page 5 addresses this as a problem and ASTM D-6078/79 is mentioned on this page(this is the scuff test I linked to on a previous post here. Yes, they get different results in Europe because they use a different test method. You just demonstrated that they are using a different test, hence a different result! If they used their testing method on our fuels, we would have a like kind comparison.

Conclusion IMHO is that the scuff test result difference between here and Europe shows nothing useful for us in this thread.
Thanks again for linking to the Bosch wear test article

Cheers
Mike
