dont they put some "special exhaust" on it... an aeroturbine or something? I wish mine would whistle like that...

guess its not possible or?

From what I've seen the 03's whistle pretty loud stock, you can get your truck to sound like that, just install a set of twins.

The 6.0's are junk and all but one thing I'll give them is that they do sound awesome. With the loud turbo whistle and the v8 gasser like exhaust note, they sound mean. But the 12 and 24 valvers got em all beat IMO.

Im waiting for ATS to come out with your vgt turbo, im guessing they will sound like the fords, so thats what im going to be putting on, i can control my boost with a screw, and still suport 550 hp off a single with 60 lbs of boost. i just like the fast spool up.... and there wont be any computers like the furds.

I bet its one of those "whistle tips" they are so loud and shrill. Its a piece you put in the exhaust tip

we stopped and got ice cream at a place where you sit outside.

2 guys sitting on a truck tailgate. were turning and staring...they were all about the Strait Pipe on the Cummins - i like to tap it & let it "snort" when i see a PSD!

they wailed on their PSD when they pulled out.....sissy sounding squeeeeeel!! yikes!

i guess i really made them jealous with that deep CTD sound!

Just and FYI for all you fellers , i have been (and will be for the next little while) driving an 05 F350 SRW (work truck , no choice) and when you hear that shrill whistle as the truck pulls away , it is producing NO boost at that point, it is just making sound. They don't make any or power or anything until about 3000 RPM. This 05 PSD is WAY slower than my 95 , i think stock for stock would be a close race...

the reason they whistle so much is because they are a ball bearing turbo. and JKM is right at light throttle they dont produce any boost and only the 03 PSDs have the jet like sound. i wish i could find one of those turbos and put it on my truck. i think they sound awesome, and it would be neat too.

a guy told me the other day he installed a powerstroke turbo on his 1st gen. twas from a 7.3 though.


I dont like the kinda gasser exhaust sound of the straight piped PSD... only the turbo whistle.
combined... makes me hate it.

i think that PSD whistle togheter with a CTD sound would be sweet.

The loud whistle at idle and just off iddle is REALLY the trubo making NO boost, but rather, wastegating is away. I guessing this is due to theur tiny EDIT size turbo. This does it on both 7.3's and 6.0 as my frinds work truck does it (all stock) and my big gay neighbors 5 inch exhausted 6.0 F250 does it too.
Pretty smooth running motor though, better than a duratrash IMO.

I thought some of the sound was because they use a variable geometry turbo, not ball-bearing. Do the PSD's now come with BB turbos?

The wistle sound is there on the stock 6 leakers, but If you put an exshaust system on them it is very loud until it spools up higher and then it is a low drown sound. I know this because I own one with a 5" exshaust with a 6" tip. It is nothing special just a big exshaust and it does sound like 747 getting ready to take off.

big gay neighbor...thats hilarious.

i heard one sitting at a light out in Uvalde one night and it was whislting at idle too. i just assumed it was aftremarket turbo, but now that u mention it, my old boss had a 03 excursion that made a lotta noise too...
