Why not get a long bed if it's a work truck?
I doesn't matter to me if its a long or short bed. I may be changing job's soon and i'll only be plumbing for my self on the side. I used to work out of those toyota's years ago. I'm prob spoiled by the space i have in the van now but i'll adjust.!!

The 6 spd will hold up much better against some light/moderate mods than the auto will. And if you are going to go with some bigger power mods, and have the 6 spd, getting a better clutch is much better (and cheaper) than upgrading the auto tranny.

Anyone know this truck or what is done to it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz2Oh_DGo7M&NR=1

I would be happy with a truck that performed like that.. And I wouldn't care what it ran in the 1/4.!!

That's my favorite video on YouTube!!!

As a note, that's a second gen 24V not a third gen if it matters.

I'd find a stock one for a few grand less with lower miles. That's my personal opinion.

If the truck is truely clean then I'd buy it. Otherwise maybe not.

Could be a good deal though, free mods!

I'm going to look at a truck in New York sunday. Its an 03 crew cab, short bed, sport, with leather. Its got 31,000 miles on it. He is asking $23,000 for it. It looks nice and clean.

Question is.... what should i look for??

ps: its an automatic.

He probably used it as a tow pig or ran it around town. I'd check the hours, hold the trip meter to get the hours, they might represent more than the miles.

Still sounds like a clean truck. It might have the 47re transmission instead of the 48re... Which isn't as good, but I'd over look it if it's a clean truck.

Besides that just the regular stuff, see if the turbo is discolored and look at whatever you'd look at on every other vehicle.

Do a carfax.

How can you tell the difference in the tranny's?

How many hours would be sufficiant for the mileage roughly?

What do these truck's come with for rearend carriers? Lockers? Posi's?

So went to look at the truck today. I drove 4 hours to get there for noon when they opened. Turn's out the truck sold yesterday. All I got to do was sit in it. Man was it clean too. An 03 crew cab xlt with leather and 31000 miles on it for 23,000 . No wonder it sold.

The search goes on!!!

Have you looked at the classifieds on here? I've seen some pretty nice ones and generally with a person selling it they'll cut you a better deal. Offer them somewhere around trade in-private party value.

when you say "these" trucks, are you specifically referencings the 03-04s or the 04.5 - 07s, or both? Do the aftermarket, like Don M injectors happily take care of this problem?
