Re:location of fuel filter?
hey jhutch
im not sure if the fuel filter is at the same place on a 24v but on my 12v its on the drivers side, right by the brake "thingy" (i dont know what is called) but it right there on my truck, again im not sure about the 24v, they should be the same???
???
i hope this helps
oh and it looks like a oil filter in case you didnt know
there a little more to changing it then a oil filter...

Look here
#6 is the fuel filter canister.
This pic shows a '99 but the newer years have it in the same location, and changing procedures are slightly different.
BTW The dealer wants $47 for the EXACT SAME filter that Cummins sells for $14

Re:location of fuel filter?
A 3/8" ratchet will take the top off of your fuel canister and you will see how easy it is to change it out...easier then the older 24 valves thats for sure.
To prime it...do not dump unfiltered diesel in.
close it up and bump the key to just move the engine slightly and you will hear the lift pump filling the canister. Do this a few times and it will start just fine.
Wear some rubber gloves and put a small margerine container under the cansiter to catch drips. Have another container to drop the old filter in. Make sure you take the rubber ring off the cap from the old filter if its stuck there and put the new one on.

;D

Be careful using the 3/8 ratchet hole to remove the lid.
Several have cracked the lid doing it this way, then had to try to find a replacement while their truck was incapacitated.
Re:location of fuel filter?
I made up a sheet of instructions (modified slightly) consolidated from the info at Geno's Garage, and a few other places. It turned out great. PM me your email address and I'll email you a copy of it. ...includes part numbers, tools, and everything,...including the warning about using a socket driver to remove the lid. Really easy to follow. I also went to the local cummins place this week, and got a Fleetguard fuel filter for about $11, when Autozone wanted over $18 for a cheapo version. So I bought 2 cases of oil, and some oil filters there too (filters about $6 each including tax).

-SFB
