A little help here on a decision...

Alright, I have a 1991 F350, 4x4, dually, 5 speed manual. I like it, but it has a really beat up body. It runs super good, because it only has 87,000 original miles on it, but it isn't turbo'd. So here's my dilemna, sell it, and buy something else, or keep it, and fix it up. I can't figure out what to do, but everytime I go fill it up for $80 I want to sell it. Any input is good. Also, the dually wheels make me want to sell it everytime I think about new tires.

I agree with sell it. A Cummins would be an ideal replacement. A 7.3 would be distant seccond chioce.

I never knew Ford offered a 4x4 Dually with the IDI diesels... I don't think I have ever seen one. Is is a solid axle? Or that TTB nonsense?

F350 has a Dana 60 solid axle. I believe the 6.9s were the ones not available with a dually 4x4.

It's a solid axle. It came from the factory as a cab & chassis. It's stock 4x4, stock dually. It's pretty neat, but yeah man, I LOVE those cummins.

Depends how much you want to spend. I am guessing it is paid off. Sure, may not be the quickest or most powerfull truck out there, but it runs great like you said. If you buy six new tires and put in 80 bucks every tank, would it be cheaper than buying a new 06 for 40g, then have to put in 80 bucks every tank and maybe get 200 more miles out of it per tank. All depends on how much you want to have a new truck that isnt paid for.

Oh no! I wasn't going to buy a new one. I was going to buy an older 12v, somethig like a '91 dodge.

Get at least a 94 if you want the most power-potential of the 12V. 97 & 98 Manuals have the most potential out of the box. 89-93s have a different injection pump which doesn't have the power potential of the 94+'s

Would it be as easy as switching out the pump? Or would I have to do something else? Because I'm trying to go older, because most of the new ones exceed my budget.

Unless you are a very good fabricator it is really not a possibility. I mean, if you would find machining your own lawnmower engine out of a solid block of aluminum something fun to do, then a pump conversion may be for you, otherwise you could find better things to do with your money and time... Not saying that its impossible, but its one heck of a process...

But a member here by the name of Stomp just broke 600 horsepower with a 1st generation pump, so the first generations aren't quite dogs by any means. (At least not once you've putten the screws into them...)
