Learn from someone else's mistakes

My neighbor down the road has a John Deere 4430 that he wants to pull that the local tractor pulls. A buddy of mine cranked the pump, runs pretty good.

He buys a used bosch A pump and big injectors off someone from an internet add for $1500 . Should have asked me first before he bought them.

I pop tested them so he didn't have to pay someone to tell him he got screwed. He knew that one was no good from the start. Out of the remaining 5 only 1 sprays properly. The rest the pintle is hung up and they spray like water hoses.

I took one apart and I had a terrible job getting the pintle out of the nozzle. Water had gotten down into these injectors, tight clearances and water are not good things. The nozzle is a sac type with 4 holes probably .024" holes. Looks similar to a POD for the 1st gen trucks, but his injectors look like an expensive pile of junk. Now he's worried about the pump.

The lesson of the story, is one many of us know all too well. Buyer beware.

speaking of buyer beware, is there any site on the internet that works like a carfax but free? I kinda figured this would fit along with buyer beware so that nobody buys a lemon. I try not to buy used parts, especially over the internet, but sometimes, you can get some rather good deals.
Thanks,
Wheelo
