You can't just weld the bar to the bracket. It's a suspension component, so it has to move. It must be able to articulate at each end.

But you don't need to use heim joints or threaded adjusters. Just make it the correct size to begin with, and bolt it together with a good poly bushing.

I made some out of 11ga 2" square tubing with left and right turn heims from tractor supply, the ones you use on the three point to connect your drag on the tractor...they were made for our 2001 ram. That was in 2004 today we were looking at them and took them off because we just sold it, they were perfect not warped or arched...now all I need to do is find some brackets and they're good to go. I just thought I would throw that in there, ones on my brothers truck are round tubing 2.25" and they both had an arch to them...not going to say any names or brands.

How thick of tubing was it?

I will try and get some pictures, I have to go back to my brothers house. The tubing is 190 wall is what they said the pipe is. The bad thing is that we welded the brackets on bothe rigs and they don't match in size in order to change them out.

The rear axle housing moves vertically in an elliptical curve as it travels in the horizontal plane through the suspension's range of motion.

Did that make sense to anyone?

And that doesn't even address uneven articulation, as .boB mentions. So to answer your question:

Yes. As long as you don't want the axle to move more than one inch up and down in either direction in a perfectly parallel-to-the ground orientation.

(Which would of course, be fine for a dedicated sled puller.)
