Just got the wife a TDi

I am now the proud owner if an 2005 Golf GLS TDi. We are always going to be an all diesel family. I am 19, and I am finally done buying cars. How many guys can say that? With the TDi and the Cummins, we have no need to want to purchase another vehicle. Good for long term. The wife loves the car. When the warranty is up, its going to get bombed. I can't wait.

Congrats on the new TDi. I'm a Service advisor for a VW dealership, any questions let me know, I'll try and help.

BUCKSHOTMCKEE, I do have one question if you dont mind. What mods can I get away with and not void the warranty? Any way to get more go from the little 1.9?

My wife and I just went to the first VW I found. We went and looked at the TDI models. We are undecided now, but I really liked what we saw. Keep us informed on the vehicle and how the bombing goes.

jprovence, It works the same on the Mod issue as it does anything else. If you have a problem and take in and the dealer sees it, the Mod, no warranty. I recommend take it off before you take it in. Build a relationship with your VW service writer and he may over look it (Hint, Hint, not sayin I do, Hint, Hint). I wouldn't waist your money on a K&N filter. Here's a site that sells a few Mods for it, www.advanceddieselspecialist.com, Mention me and he'll give you an extra 10% off. There is a new Intake system out, STAY AWAY from it. It's got a stainless tube that comes off of the intake and routes down in front of the (L) front wheel, vacuum cleaner effect. First puddle, by-by engine. Make sure you run the Delvac in it. I hope this has answered you questions. Have fun with the new TDi.

P.S. The only thing I pretty much do on Golfs, as far as repairs, Regular maintainence thats it. Do you you know if its German or Brazil made? First 3 digits of vin # WVW=Germany, 9BW=Brazilian.

Brazil, if I remember right, I am at work, so I can't remember, but that sounds right. Is that bad?

Congrats!

I talked my parents into a Jetta TDI and they love it. Very comfortable car and regularly gets 45-47 mpg with the automatic.

my mom used to have a TDi Bug a few years back. I grew up in a diesel family. So diesel fuel runs though my blood. Heck, there are 4 cummins' in my family alone,
my truck, my father and uncle both have 04.5's, my grandma drives a 97's 2500 2wd. And my truck. I am trying to get my little brother into a nice 1st gen. Only if my mother would get rid of her T-bird.

No that's not a bad thing. I think the Brazil one's are built as good as the German ones, maybe even better.

My wife has a 01 TDI it now has 100,000 kilometers on it. We both love the car but it had issues. Plugged intake manifold (egr issue had to turn it off with VAG-COM or it will happen again 300-600 to fix) VW was iffy about fixing that so I had to. Windows falling down, fixed on warranty. Maf sensor goes bad, recall on that. Parts are expensive Maf sensor $450 for tdi $250 for Gasser same part different number!! Also reroute blowby to the atmosphere so it wont plug up the intercooler. Back brakes wear out twice as fast as fronts? We get 55-61 mpg. Goes like stink, now that warranty is over mabe a little bombing?? I would get the Passat next its a bit bigger.
Sorry had to vent a little.

Congradulations on the new car. My wife has a 2000 jetta tdi. I will not buy another one . T belt change is too expensive and the air bag light came on for no reason 2 years ago.vw wants $350 to make it go out. Check engine light is on now, that started 3 months ago. The power windows fell out (that was covered by warrenty) but when they fixed them they didnt plug the power mirror control back in . I very rarely drive it so it was 6 months before I new about the mirrors so they say they didnt do it. maf sensor went out, cup holder is broken, window piller on back door windows is all rusted on both sides (vw will not fix them)
splash shield under the front of the car didnt last 6 months(vw wants 250 for that). Since my t belt was changed we dont get more than about 38 mpg (it got 44 before the t belt) vw says that retiming the engine is not part of the t belt change and wants me to pay more to check/change the timing. Other than that the car runs good. I hope someone else comes out with a family car that is a diesel like toyota or mitsubishi or God forbid one of the big three. I hope you guys with the new passats dont have as pricy of a t belt change$500 will buy a lot of fuel. I want one that has timing gears not a belt or chain.
Sorry for the ranting but I have to call a spade a spade.
