John Deere Plus 50 oil?

Anyone using Plus 50 15W-40 ? Dino or Syn.

Tractor, truck, anything, everything?

How do you like it?

Any oil samples analized?

What are you paying for it?

http://www.deere.com/en_US/parts/par...s50_15w40.html

Thanks

I've been running it in my truck (since I work at a Deere Dealer) I haven't done any samples on it yet though.

Deere mechanics swear by it.

my saturn burns oil(250k or something), not talking smoke cloud down the road. 1 qt in 1000k or so. Anyhow, friend gave me some deere oil and that's what I've been running in it. It's use that or cheap smile mart oil. Seems like good oil though.

It's very good oil. I have it in my truck. List price is about $13.50 a gallon. Also, Deere did not change to the new CI rating or whatever it is for use with the ULSD fuel. They report that the old rating protects the engine better in dirty environments etc.

Thanks for the replys, I'm going to switch over to it.
That's not a bad price, we have 2 Deere dealers in town, one is construction equipment and the other is farm, I'll call them both and see where they are on price.
It is CI, which is what I want. The new rating that most oils have already switched to is CJ.

Question

where would I find that at? I tried searching their site, but it gave too many options for dealer locators. Where do i go that specifically stocks that particular CI rated oil?

Any dealer will have the ci rated oil, great stuff, I run 15 40 april -oct, 0-40 all winter. The diesel mechanic i use highly recommends it, or valvoline

To anyone who is currently running it; Are you still using the same drain intervals? or are you now changing more frequently?

The lawn and garden JD dealers probably don't have it and if they do will charge more than a agricultural or construction dealer.

I've run deere oil in every diesel truck I've ever had. (Only 3) I worked at deere up until bout 2 months ago. It is very good oil. One way to look at it is like this. If its good enough to run in a tractor all day everyday doin whatever and the motor last for 10k or longer hours then its good enough to run in my truck. Jus a thought. I run it and get my filters at the dealer too. TY22013 is the deeere part number for the oil filter. Jus as easy to get it while i was there at the shop.

I have been using the 15W-40 DEERE oil in two of my trucks for quite some time now.

I get it at the John Deere tractor/equipment dealer in five-gallon pails.

My main reason for using it is that John Deere refused to go with the CJ-rating and stuck with the tried and true CI-4 formula.

I really like it (I don't have any scientific reasons to back this up) and have confidence that it is some good stuff.

The last two pails were $130, so it must have been $65/pail = $13/Gallon.

The engines that set more than used get the WalMart CI-4 oil and half-a-gallon of LUCAS.

Im curious......if anybody knows the answer to this question...

I use Rotella Synthetic 5w40 oil......because it was still CI-4+. As a side benefit it really helps the cold starts over 15w40. Since it has now made the switch to CJ blend too........im eventually going to make a switch to another brand when my current stock of CI-4+ runs out. I have 15 gallons left.

But the JD synthetic 0w40 oil is rated for CH-4. Is that ok to run in our trucks? I guess i'd switch to JD 15w40 if needed....but I sure like the cold starts with the Rotella Syn........just wondering how it would compare going to JD syn 0w40. Thanks.

I know I can run 5w so long as it synthetic and not a synthetic blend but check the owners manual to be sure if your 04.5 can use it or not as some of the older engines could only handle 10w for winter oil.

I am running the 0w40 in the truck right now. I work at JD dealer and after making some calls the stuff will sub up to CI4. It is still listed at CH4 due to what is still left at Indy parts DC. The oil is still blended by Chevron/Texaco
