Jeep Liberty CRD

I have a Liberty CRD and have had lots of EGR failures. Anyone have any ideas of how to fix this? These EGR's are about 200 bucks from Jeep. Not to mention that they are kinda hard to get to.

Can you bypass it somehow?

Thats what I am trying to find out. There is a large number of CRD owners on LOSTkjs.com but most of them are like me, this is there first diesel of there own. They can't come together with a plan. I found this site and thought I would start asking questions. DCX told me that my "high flow exhaust" was the reason for the multible EGR failures . So they are no help.

I haven't looked that close to a Jeep CRD engine. If you take it to a performance diesel shop they could help you out. I don't know if they would actually do the work since you'd be bypassing emissions stuff but they might be able to tell you how, hypothetically. I wish we had bought a Jeep CRD instead of the Saturn Vue my wife drives.

Check this site http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...sb/results.cfm Click service bulletins then add your vehicle info the select engine exhaust and emissions . It'll turn up a tech bulletin on EGR's.

The 'Fix' will depend on the amount of 'Hippieness' that you happen to believe in.

Meaning, the current/stock EGR system is meant to reduce pollution. However it's proven that the stock system don't work none to well. ie: oil coated turbos, CAC tubes and eventually clogged/choked intercoolers.

There are, to date only one solution that I know of. That being what is known as the "Elephant Hose Mod" Surf on over to the L.O.S.T. KJ's site and look for it. It's easy enough to do, if you don't mind walking on the wild side!

Edited to add this:

There is another solution. I believe it's called the Mann Provent filter. Apparently it's a whole lot more expensive, but it's more legal too!

Good luck man!

Not sure if it's an EGR prob or a software issue, but I do agree. You see a CRD come in the door and the check engine light is usually EGR related. Thank god they didn't build too many of them. They quit making them so I've pretty much thrown them on the back burner as far as learning to work on them. Not enough of them on the road to care about. Right up there with the Viper and the Prowler.

That is the problem we have and the problem that DCX will have with the GC CRD. And I beleive that you are a parts changer at the local DCX How do you explain the Oil in the CAC hoses?

I think the ULSD will cut down on EGR problems as there doesn't seem to be anywhere near that much fuss in Europe with the setup. The GC CRD should be better because of this.
