General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

I've heard people call 6.0s "Boat Anchors"...

I'm at 40 K in my 07 5.9. In the shop once for a water leak, out in one day.

Pull the OASIS on my 04 6.0, not pretty!

The PSD was a better truck in all creature comforts. I would own one today if I could buy a brand new, no cat, 7.3 Lariat.

You are a good man Ktpauley, I'll attribute your 6.0 success to clean living!

The only part of that story that holds water is his truck...

A 3000 pound ice shack...what did he have, a hotel room for a hut?

It's hard to tell exactly from the pictures, but the ice doesn't look any more than 2" thick.

I hope that person doesn't show those pictures to the insurance company.

I once heard that 95% of the 6.0L psd's are still out on the road.......the other 5% made it back home.

If the Dodges had nicer creature comforts I'd be driving one.

When was your 04 built? If it was built prior to 9/29/03 it was what is referred to as a 04/03. An 04 model ear with an 03 engine in it. Mine was built in Jan. 04. I know cause I followed it being built. When did yoyu ever see a Lariat 4x4 with a manual transfer case?

As a Seabee where were ouall stationed at?

It was an 03 build date, can't recall the month . I have seen at least one dually Lariat with the manual transfer case, it was six speed to boot.

"A" school at Pt Hueneme

CBU-415 NAS Oceana, Va mobilized us for the 1st gulf war to Jubail, Saudia Arabia where we built FH5.

NSWDG Dam Neck, Va drove some very cool trucks there and saw some very interesting equipment.

NREC/NORU Pensacola, Fl. Drove recruiting exhibit semi around the country. Independent duty going from event to event. Coolest was Richard Petty's retirement party at his shop in Level Cross, NC.

No mobile time, but had a bunch of fun!

The early 03's had several problems.

I did "A" school at Port Hueneme, then a year in Public Works Diego Garcia. Point Loma Sub base, I operated the cranes on the floating drydock. then me last 3 years was Operation Deep Freeze. The last deployment I was in Christchurch, New Zealand. That was great. Keith

I had a 03 Lariet that had more miles behind a tow truck then it did under its own power. The 05's weren't to bad but still have their share of problems

This is the perfect oppertunity to buy a truck with a real engine. If I had a 6.0 I would try to drown myself too.

I can't knock the 6.0 too bad, my neighbor has the first model year they came out with over 100k HARD miles on it. Never had any warranty work, since it was chipped as soon as a chip was available for it. It's entered sled pulls, pulls a 40' Toyhauler all year long, 6 place snowmobile trailer, etc.... and he is NOT easy on his equipment.

Starts worse than anything I've ever seen in the cold, but once running it treats him well.

Sucks to see that guy lost his truck, especially if it was one of the good ones.

My 06 Dodge, 39,700 miles

2 sets ball joints, 3rd set is now smoked.
Tranny shuttle shift tsb done, made it worse.
6 injectors.
2 ecm reflash's.
Drivers side seat frame.
Engine noise, (slight knock) pending valve seat failure?
Tank vent recall
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

My 03 F-350 6.0, 54,000 at time of trade for the 06 Dodge.
8 injectors
2 sets ball joints, 3rd set done by me at 50k
3 sets 4x4 hubs
1 set front rotors and pads, (warped, warranty)
multiple ecm reflashes.
1 egr valve, done with injector replacement.
Never a single issue with the transmission

I ran an Edge juice platinum set on 3 all the time (60hp) never leaked a drop of coolant.

Looks like a comparable list to me. (shoulder shrug)

Trying to win a debate that Ford trucks are better than Dodge trucks on a Dodge Forum site is like asking my dog to talk.
I don't understand the point.

If Ford had a 5.9 Cummins offered in it I would be driven it.
