We had an old travel-all that could pull anything. It was a gasser, but I always heard stories of it pulling out old growth oak stumps...

Not that they're true stories, but those old internationals are legends in lots of circles.

Yeah, the Traveler is a variant of the Scout II (same vehicle, only the Traveler wheelbase is stretched 18" longer than the SII). '76 through '79 were available with the Nissan SD33 6cyl diesel but are commonly known to be slugs that won't hardly get out of their own way on the highway. '80 was the last year they were made and in '80 they got the Nissan SD33T which was a turbo'd version of the SD33. This gave them a bit more pep on the highway... however, both versions were decent powerplants off the road. The SII and it's variants is too light to be seriously considered as any kind of a tow vehicle, so the diesels only needed to move the vehicle itself and not a load behind it. It is a 6-cyl... but it's a small one (something on the order of 250ci, if I remember correctly). Still a nice little ride capable of getting mpg's in the 20's.

I have one EXACTLY like it next to my barn. They called the Scout "the Binder" because in 4WL the differentials lockup and you will go! I actually ripped tires right off the rims. They are a tough drive train, but the bodies rusted like you won't beileve. Mine has holes in the floor boards so big you can drop a 6 pack through it, and if I took off the fiberglass top my fenders would fall off. I took the doors off so I can spray thisles in the summer.

If someone want mine they can have it! I haven't run it in 3 years.

Thing the term "Binder" came from IHs past productiond of "corn binders" It was used as an insult by the owners of other brands.

The were very overbuilt in the drivetrain but as you have found out the bodies were prone to rust
