"FUEL ADDITIVES ARE DANGEROUS TO YOUR ENGINES' HEALTH" is the actual title of an official Detroit Diesel publication... As a 32 year 'factory rep' (now retired), I have seen a lot of damage to both fuel systems and piston ring sticking, proven in our labs to be caused by random after-market additives...
In general, the only additives normally accepted by engine manufacturers, are bacteria Killers (can grow in stored / stagnant fuel causing clogging), and winter cold wax remover... normally and safely sold under the brands of the engine or bonafide fuel system makers at their dealerships... You are flirting with failure with many aftermarket products with cans touting wonderful benefits...
Also, having direct experience in years of engineering field testing jointly with my company and a major oil firm, rest assured the major brands of fuel normally need no supplements other than the 2 situations noted above....
