Just go to a diesel drag. I can only imagine what the guys in the Toyota and hemi Dodges in the gas class, thought about that 11.18 on the first run. 4wd, 6spd, single turbo. A twin probably would have reduced that smoke trail and pushed him to the 10's.

"You guys got me so jazzed up about diesels I'm gonna buy another one for the wife to drive!"
That's the spirit! Owning a diesel is kinda like a religion...you have to convince others that what you have is great and sometimes they don't believe you and sometimes they heed the calling and go diesel CRAZY!

I'm with Shovel Head - up top. $.10 -$.20 a gal less AND better mileage!
I had a 1999 5.9 Dodge gasser Pickup that would not get over 12 mpg. I drive 40,000+ a year. I don't tow and can only say I need a diesel 3/4 ton truck about once or twice a month - hauling 4-5 drums instead of 2-3.
But, after 14 months of owning a CTD I can't believe how much fun this truck still is as a daily driver. If I get bored at home I still go for a drive - like I think we all do with NEW vehicles. Where else can you get a stable 7000 lb vehicle that will accelerate better than most cars, carry a ton +/-, let you see over the traffic and get 18-20 mpg. First time in my life, after owning a vehicle for over a year, I don't see other trucks out there I would rather own.
Try it, you'll love it.

Ditto as everyone else. My 02 quad cab 4x4 gasser averaged 10.5 I'm already at 17 with only 700 miles on the truck and judging by what everyone else says the best is yet to come. Over 500 miles to a tank vs. less than 250 in gasser...hmmm let me see Yep I'm keepin' my deisel!

I did get right at 18 MPG on the last tank, so it still ends up being cheaper than driving the Jeep.

Did an actual calculation on my last tank of diesel and with a combination of highway and city driving I got 19.1 mpg. For that tank it was about 50/50 city and highway driving.
I do not baby the engine and floor it many times a day.

Yes, the diesel here is fairly high in sulphur, but not sure how high as the gas company has been playing or talking about playing with the the sulpher content. So far it has not given me any problem. Except every month like clockwork they up the price a little.

Now i don't confess to be an expert on diesels but i get the same milage from the cummins than i did from my old GMC with a str 4 petrol in it, and having just driven Dodge to southern Spain and back here to the UK total miles being 3,000. in tempretures of over 40c in Spain, and it was loaded to the roof going down and still got about 23mpg.
Like you, i've heard all the horror stories about parts being expensive, but reliability is the most important thing, and power (Torque) being the next in my eyes.
The truck was an unknown quantity when i brought it, but it's a real head turner here in the UK, I know it's a bit noisy but when you get into 6th it's no more intrusive than a petrol V8.
I would not go back to a petrol engine now partly because of the price of fuel here in England which is £4.00 a gallon, but in Spain where i'm going to live shortly it's about £1.80 a gallon and secondly you need something thats fit for the roads overthere as alot of them are dirt tracks and you need a good 4x4.

Hoot, the English talk just as wierd as you Americans. All supposed to be called the English language but .......
Just in cars alone;
Boot = trunk
Bonnet = hood
And more ....
A few weeks ago I listened to a tape from England highlighting accents and they played people speaking around a 50 mile radius of London. Most of them I could only understand a few words and had no idea of the subject. Come to think of it, some parts of the states are hard to understand also.
