IH 656 Injecter Pump Problems
We have an IH 656 diesel tractor that we are getting very low fuel pressure out of the injector pump on. We were wondering if anyone has had expierance with them and/or knows how to adjust the or fix the Injector pump so it gets better pressure, and maybe start

iker42,
That 656 has the D282 in it right? Same engine as the 560. Roosa Master Injection pump. There's a couple of things to try before you cash in and pull the pump for a rebuild.
First check the simple things, fuel supply, how well does it flow. Any electric or manual shutoff that isn't working or is in the off position.
Check the return line, make sure its clear back to the tank, they won't run with a plugged return line. Friend of mine has this problem thought it was clear and it wasn't clear enough.
Last check, get a catch pan because it going to dump fuel out. There's 2 screws that hold a sheet metal window on the side of the pump, loosen both slightly, just enough to let some internal pressure out of the pump. Then try and start it. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't depends on the pump.
Good luck with it. Let us know how it works out.
