I would have to say you got a bad one. Toyota has an excellent reputation for quality. The only I had to replace on the 97 Tacoma I had was a fan clutch and I traded it in with about 98k. And then I had a Tundra that had no problems (both bought used) and then I traded for new 03 Cummins 2500 Ram. I loved that truck and wish I still had it, but it spend more time in the shop with under 50k than my Toyotas did with 100k.
Don't take this as me hating the Dodges, because I am looking for one now, but the Toyotas are great trucks depending on what you want to do (not for towing over 6k).
