I didn't think to differentiate between the different versions of diesels the other makers have offered over the years. I just heard a fellow say the other day that he actually bought his Duramax back after driving his new 2006 PSD, and finding it has a bad turbo (???). Apparently there is a recall on them and his dealer has 10 (yes TEN) trucks ahead of him for turbo replacement. He plans to sell the PSD as soon as it is fixed under warranty.
All this just made me wonder what we'd all do if we only had choises of lesser diesels.

I voted earlier but after thinking about this today I had a thought. A point could be made that had Dodge not put the Cummins in their truck the Ford & Chevy choices would not exist. As I remember it back in 1989 the Cummins was the first powerful diesel in a pickup. The Ford & Chevy diesels were slugs that could barely get out of their own way. Dodge really set a new standard and the others have been playing catch up.

Most definitely true. There's just no comparison between the CTD and the other brands from '89 until '94 when the PowerStroke came out. And it wasn't even intercooled yet.

Also voted for a gasser. My V8 '93 Dakota was very, very good to me. I don't see myself joining the know-little bowtie crowd (Oh, ain't my Duramax-Allison wonderful? It's JUST LIKE A CAR) and I have too many experiences on the side of the road with PSDs. I'd probably go for a hemi. (I test-drove one, and it's scootable even though I'd boo-hoo much more at the gas pump.)

Nah, I need a pick-up for work...

The AMC I-6's that they put in the Commanche are good engines. Altough another option that I would look at would be a Jeep J-Series. Those were real iron, not unibody like the Commanche.

And somebody's already made a Pacer into a OTR Semi, so I need to stay focused on the Gremlin.

Yeah. The PW would work too. I just saw one up close in a dealers lot today, dark maroon. My god, them are NICE. Makes my 04 w/ stock tires seem small. One problem with the PW though... either 2 too many, or 2 too few cylinders. get it??

If there was no Cummins option then it would definately be a powerwagon for me. Either way I would stick with a Dodge truck.
