If I had to commute
I'd get one of these http://ecomobile.com/
-fully enclosed cockpit, AC, stereo etc 2 seater.
- 60mpg from a hopped up performance version (160 mph).
- the "training wheels" deploy in a flash and then pick up when it rolls off.

Pretty nice setup for more rural areas.
Not too sure I'd want to commute around DC in one though.
Too many people driving 4,000 pound missles while distracted for my tastes.
It would have to have casket handles that pop out on impact.

Last I heard about the hybrids are that some owners are quite ticked off that the cars aren't getting the mileage they were claimed to get. The TDI was getting better mileage than that new Honda hybrid last time I heard anything about those. I guess the way they test them makes the hybrid look really good versus normal driving conditions.
I'd much rather have a 1200cc crotch rocket for a lot less money, or obviously a CTD would be even more so my taste.

Well here is a video of one that does have a big turbo, I don't think he has NOS on it though. Imagine taking it for a ride! (I hope it works without being registered there, 10mb) May have a hard time hooking a goosneneck to it, but at least that'd help keep the front end down.

My wife had to stop what she was doing and ask if I was alright.
