I wish dodge had diesel suv
My wife has a 2001 grand cherokee it has 35,000 miles on it and it's going down hill fast. Just in the last week the speedo quit, the front right head light and turn signal also quit working. I saved the best for last I noticed some oil drips in the driveway, I poped the hood and took a quick look oil is comeing from between the head and block. I have realy had enough. I wish that dodge had something like the Excersion with a diesel in it. My wife has been saying she wants a diesel. Unfortunaly I might buy a stinking 7.3. Well heres looking up when the PSD blows up I can stick a cummins in it.

I know its not a Grand Cherokee but the Jeep Liberty has an optional diesel:

A Suburban with a 6.5 makes a GREAT grocery getter. We had a 95 for 5 years and now a 99. Whole family with all the luggage in the back on the interststate at 21mpg. They are bomb able. I would not give up the Cummins to tow but also not give up the Sub for the family.

I've only heard bad things about Chevy's 6.5s. I guess they are an improvement over the 6.3 (?) A diesel durango or something would be neat... i personally like the 1960s diesel Land Rovers. I have a buddy that has one, they are awesome!

Cummins? Hummer? Something weird about that. Not quite sure what though.
I went over to the Jeep site and looked at those new Liberty's with the diesel. Common Rail fuel system and a TurboCharger. Looks like a real powerful beast. I wonder what kind of maintenance issues the engine will have? Anyone have any idea what kind of MPG's they get? Also how durable is that Italian made engine?

Is this the straight 6? This is something every single one of the straight 6 engines do. And its one of the easiest head gaskets to replace on your own.
As for the front headlight and turn signal, check the ground wires. If both went out at once it could be the ground wires worked loose.
As for Dodge making a Diesel SUV, I cant stand the look of the new Durango. If it looked better, then yes, as is. Suburban with a 12V or 24V conversion is what I am going to go for. Maybe a Z71 with that conversion. Actually I think I may like the Z71 better.

Heading down that road now.
Wifes got an 2000 excursion that we've put a fair amount of work in (6" Suspension lift, tires, etc) but its got the V10 gasser and is currently getting 9.3 mpg
Looking into all the hardware for the Cummins conversion transplant.
