I know somone who has a 2000 qc 3500 it has over 100,000 and pulls a 10k lbs horse trailer on a regular basis. They have accedently put gass in it on three occasions and it still has the factory vp44 in it. Ive been waiting fo it to go out but its been a year now since the last mistake and its still running.

I've been told that because of the high compression rating that it would blow the head off but when they did it they had a tremoundus power loss almost like it would run if it had water in it.

I took delivery of my truck on 8/15/2001. It has never been back to the dealer for any problem, warranty or otherwise. It is still on the original LP and IP. I have absolutely no complaints regarding the reliability of my truck.

I've personally installed a VP on a truck with 320K that still had the original. It was a badly beaten work truck that had little maint. I have another customer with a 99 that has 167K on his original pump (pump has more miles on it than the new engine that replaced the cracked 53). Another guy who has close to 300K is on his third VP. That said I've replaced over 125 VP 44 pumps since 1999, and I'm in a low volume dealer. My vp took a dump at 82K on a nice 128 degree day. Repeated dead pedal for a week before I had time to change it out. Once the temperature goes up around here the VP's drop like flies. Either way you cut it, of the three main fuel systems (P pump, VP, Cp3 common rail) the VP is going to be the one that most likely will cost you some bucks. Just my .02 from my years of seeing trucks come and go through my stalls.
