General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

I have a favor to ask.

I have a favor to ask.

Well, I called the dealer about one of the trucks I'm looking at. It has 105k on the OD and is an 04'. He said it has a goose neck hitch so it towed(no way to tell how much) big dent in the top of the tail gate tells me that the trailer was dropped on the tailgate. He says it has dents in the sides too, but the interior looks really clean . Well, that tells me somebody used the crap out of this truck and diddn't take all that good of care of it. He is going to send me more pics, but that really doesn't help me. I live 400mi away from it and have no way to check it out myself.

Now, heres the favor. Would any of you guys that live near Brenham, TX be willing to check this thing out for me? I know that is a lot to ask from somebody you don't know, but I don't know what else to do. Here is a link to the autotrader.com add.

Thanks in advance.

If I'm not busy this weekend I'll check it out. Brenham's only about 45 minutes from me.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. From the description the sales manager gave me it doesn't sound too good. I just want to know if I need to look elsewhere. Don't know how to thank you for even volunteering.

It's cool. It depends on how much time I've got this weekend though. Thursday and friday I'm pulling 12 hour shifts by myself at work and saturday I might be moving and training a new guy on top of work and sunday I'm headed home for mother's day. But if I get a break I'll see what it looks like.

Well, thanks even if you don't have time. You'll know what to look for better than I will anyway.

It's a nice looking truck. Two things though, it IS a regular cab, maybe that matters to you, maybe it doesn't, the rather wordy description left that out and it is NOT a short bed. The words Regular cab, short bed and Cummins do not go together. They are not available in that configuration.

Actually, I want a reg cab long bed 4wd. They are impossible to find. There are only 3 on autotrader. This is just the closest one. I like this one too, but it is 800mi away. However it does have less miles and looks to be in better condidion. I don't mind a few dents, but I don't wan to see nothing but dents as this will make me not like the truck. I would like the tailgate fixed. I'm not a big fan of eyesores. This truck will eventually be used as a drag truck and I plan on getting fiberglass fenders and bed sides. Eventually is the key word. When I buy it it's gonna be my daily driver so it has to be in good mechanical condition as well as appealing to the eye.

I like your truck except the dually part. I've had lots of trouble finding one that's nice. I may have to order an 06'. But I'd rather not since a new engine and tranny are coming out next year. Oh well, I'll just sit back and see what happens.

Thats too many dollar's for that truck. Looks like a young rowdy had it to with those big tires and wheels and all? There are nicer one's out there. I sell a lot ofthose in that combination, but don't have any right now.

That's what I was thinking. What about the red one?

That red truck is worth the price their asking. That dealership used to be Litchfield Chrysler and they were good friends of ours. Then Steve Schmidt bought them out. I don't know anybody over there anymore. But that truck looks good, I wouldn't hesitate at that price.

The only problem with the red one is that it is over 900mi away. I have no idea how to go about buying it. Advice would be appreciated. How would I trade mine in? I wouldn't want to drive or fly all that way just to end up not buying the truck. I don't have that kind of money to waste.

I'd sell yours yourself and buy that one outright. Call them, ask lots of question's. Get them to send you some more pictures by e-mail. Your always in a better negotiating position if your buying outright instead of trading.

Just my 2 cents here. If later on down the road you find the truck you want and it has a gooseneck hitch in it I wouldn't let that be a huge deciding facter on wether or not you should buy it. These engines are made to be worked and sometimes engines that are worked might be in better shape than engines that were not worked(less internal soot build up)
