HVAC experts, need assistance

So I dug this thing out of the scrap dumpster at work thinking it would make a darn good oil bypass filter housing.

Question is. What's inside of this thing? Is it some form of nuclear waste or something similar? Is it under pressure?

The pertinent facts about it are, if you can't read the label.

1. It's a refrigerant dryer
2. It's rated to 500 psig
3. (IMO) It should make a good bypass housing assuming I can find some filter media. which may end up being toilet paper!

Thanks for the help!

That is a liquid-line filter/drier housing. It holds replaceable filter/desiccant drier material.

Often, the filter media is in the form of paper much like an air filter but more often, it uses a molded block of a chemical absorbent that is formed in such a way that it also serves as a molecular sieve.

Hope this helps.

LOL! Sorry about the quick reply. I was headed out the door for work.

There's nothing in there that will make your mess fall off. Its job is to filter the refrigerant in an AC or refrigeration unit. Minus the filter media, it's just a high pressure rated steel can.

No big whoop.

Depending on what the refrigerant/oil condition was inside the system it was removed from, it could have some nasty (toxic) stuff inside - so....

Don't drink it!

No problem BC

That is pretty much what I wanted to hear.

Now that I know my 'mess' won't fall off when I uncork this can. I think I may fiddle with it tomorrow!

Thanks again for the help!
