How reliable are the 2006 PSD's (Read)
#46
Up here in Alberta, the only reason Ford and Chevy rule the industry is cuz there are at least 3:1 dealerships for Ford and Chevy to outfit the crews and they are willing to deal down to dirt cheap. And most times the bean-counter in the big city specs out the truck for the opertator, the big companies have deals corporately with the manufacturer's. Also with Fords 150 some odd frame configurations, the options are a little more open for discussion.
Yes the CTD can smoke. Whats the point? Seems every PSD jockey I see gets jealous and tries everything in their power to drive past me cuz they can't make a cloud....LOL... Whatever, I am not into driving 160 KPH, so knock your brains out.. See you on the hills dude...
The torqueshift would be a heap of goo after being coupled to the ISBE.. 600+ Ft-lbs at 1500 Rpm is not what it was designed for, thats a fact. Same goes for the Allison. Get the RPM's up and then you can hold it.... maybe... The Dodge Auto is no screaming hell either, so thats a non-arguement I guess.. That being said, even with the lowest power box, that over 700 to the tranny.
You can't dispute the absolutely poor track record of the 6.0h-no..

give the poor guy a break, his furd's a year old already, surprised it lasted this long until it One of our customers has always been a diehard ford guy and he tows heavy trailers through mountains in Idaho regularly. In the last five years he's had a 7.3 and a 6.0 and a duramax. this year he got into an 05 cummins and he can't stop talking about how his other trucks don't even compare, the cummins is WAAAAY ahead of them, yet another convert that switched over because of FACTS instead of hear-say from the ford salesmen.
Also odd that he's out of warranty, ford's usually pretty good about their engine replacement program cause they know their engines suck - A friend of mine is on his 3rd engine in his 40,000mile expedition and 2nd engine in his 55,000 mile mustang. that combined with the exploding 6.0's that can't tow makes me a LITTLE leary of buying a ford.

First of all, I'm NOT disputing the poor track record of the 6.0.
3:1? I doubt it.
ISBE? aren't all ISBs "E"s?
Yeah, Ive got "Smoke Envy" for sure
2006 Duramax LBZ - 650lb-ft @ 1600rpm w/6-spd Allison. FACT.
How do more RPMs help an auto trans hold hp/tq? Is there some kind of centrifugal mechanism in there that i'm not aware of?

i am willing to bet the dealer found some of his mods, and shut off warranty, thats funny. I say, if your gonna mod under warranty, be prepared to pay the bill, if its not stock as produced from Ford,DC or GM, then why should they pay??

alberta60,
here are the numbers right off the chevy web site.
----------------------------------------------------
Duramax 6600 Turbo Diesel V8,
(with Manual Transmissions 300 HP [223.8 kW] @ 3000 rpm, 520 lb.-ft. [702.0 N-m] @ 1600 rpm)
(with Automatic Transmissions 310 HP [231.2 kW] @ 3000 rpm, 605 lb.-ft. [816.8 N-m] @ 1600 rpm) (LLY) $5,310.00
-----------------------------------------------------
Shows 605 lb-ft, not 650. No big deal but you did mention "FACT".
Here's the link to the page: http://www.chevrolet.com/byo/selectO...th=2&x=29&y=11

under the heavy duty section it does say they've got the 6 speed option, never heard of that. guess they had to add an extra gear to keep up with the mileage ours are getting with 4spds. No mention of the 650 but I guess it's easy to turn up the dmax's with a box, I still haven't heard of an allison 1000 that'll hold up to a stock duramax and tow without going and higher rpm's increase the line pressure, nothing centrifugal.
since when were we saying anything about Dmax's? alberta, what's your point in throwing the D specs out? still lower than the little 6-cylinders. quit avoiding the subject. someday you'll have to admit that, for a 3/4 and 1 ton truck, the dodge is better. it has a more reliable engine(modified or not), gets better mileage AND tows better despite having one less gear and two less cylinders It does erk me that dodge doesn't have very many options as far as utility trucks go but that really has nothing to do with which truck can make it past 50k miles without some sort of major failure.
I also find it very interesting that of all the guys i've heard about and talked to that have over 500,000 miles on their dodges, not 1 of them has said anything about replacing their cabs or the rest of the truck. maybe just coincidence but it *MIGHT* be a vicious rumor that dodge trucks fall apart too soon(unless you ask someone who's surrounded by the blue-oval fog, then it's fact)

shoot, while the rant switch is on, I was about to buy a ford diesel. I wanted a big diesel truck b/c at the time I had nearly died in an accident driving my s10 and i need to tow things without borrowing my dad's truck all the time. looking around used, the fords were going for about $4,000 cheaper similarly equipped. Test drove quite a few trucks and spent a couple months on this forum and a few others(ferd ones too)...wouldn't you know it there are a LOT more guys that used to own fords and LOVE their cummins dodges opposed to guys over there...hardly any posts bragging that they'd gotten rid of their cummins and loved the reliability and towing characteristics of their powerstrokes. since we're talking about facts.

Ha
I wonder if Ford actually put the Cummins in their Superduty if these guys would still talk all this nonsence. It would be funny. One guys was talking about how the Cummins engine "just falls apart" . What are these people talking about? The crapiest truck in the world doesn't just fall apart. I think they have too much pride (some of them). Even some of the guys on that site that own powerstrokes were complaining about them. Those guys were actually telling the truth the other ones well..... they talk a lot.

The reason there is no "PSDdodge.com" is, why put a 250,000 mile engine in a 100,000 mile truck? QUOTE]
hehe just read this... I think the real reason is, "If it aint broke don’t fix it" why would anyone ever want to replace a 400,000+ mile engine with a "250,000" mile engine?
And as far as dodge being a 100,000 mile truck, my 98 has 148k and looks new! 2- 93s that are like new. Plus the power windows and door locks still work unlike our 2001 ford. I a have never owned ford that all the power door locks and windows worked, we have 4 ford work trucks. What can I say... we needed leg room. Good thing they have a warranty/ plus that keeps our fleet looking new!
I know I am hard on stuff which is why I Own dodge Cummins!!!

Actually the ISBE designation came with the ECHO engine.. But whatever.. The pre electronic version were just BT or BTA engines.. the ISB is the Electronic VP44 pump..
650?? Thats all???... Hmm, lets see, the stock clutch is good for around 700 ft-lbs and it can't hold it.. I have driven a 6.6 and you can't load it enough at 1600 RPM without a downshift, so you can't use it anyway.
Smoke envy.. hmm, nice term...

100k
My 96 has 167k, my old 93 had 169k when I traded, my brothers 97 4x4 has 210k and my dads old 89 had 235k when he traded it. We have never had any issues with any of our dodges. All three of 95, 96, and 97 we currently own have the same mods and still no problems. The 98 ford 7.3 utility fire truck our fire dep. owns has 44K and a bad rear main oil seal and no warranty. I think I'll stick to my dodge.

a good customer of ours traded his '05 3500 cummins in on an '06 dmax, 6spd auto/650 ft-lbs, put about 5,000 miles on it and just didn't like it as much, took it back and traded it back again. he didn't like how it towed(engine and ride) and he didn't like the seats. of course he's got a biased opinion...he's always driven fords. on his 3rd 6.0 he gave up on that.

Man, this stuff is unbelievable! You mean to tell me that these guys bought a diesel truck and know not a thing about the Cummins/Dodge? Seriously, that stuff ticks me off so much, they are blatently lying. If (a big if) I was to ever hook up to any other brand truck, I would not stop until I tore their axles out, thats how much I've had about the 'cumaparts' and 'piece o' crap dodges'. They wouldn't know a real truck if one ran over them.
Sorry, just p.o.ed after readin that garbage. I'm all better now.
