I just ran mine to the nipple on top of the tank. all gravity feed, my transfer tank is 50 gallons and i have spilled before but not that much. when your on a trip you stop after about 500 miles of driving open the tank. I drive for about 1 1/2 or so stop again then i'm good for another 500 miles or more. then open it again and leave it open until I fill up next. I get about 1350 miles per fill up.

As for the D.O.T. issues all semis gravity from one side tank to the other to keep them equal, they have a crossover line on the bottom of the tanks to equalize them, the rule is " A fuel system must not supply fuel by gravity or syphon feed directly to the carburetor or injector" if you want to read the DOT rules..

Here's one way to do it:

I used two selector valves. With the front selector I can run on either main or bed tank. IP return is always to the stock tank and takes about 100 miles to re-fill, so have to watch the gauges while running on the bed tank. I can select to pump it out to whatever with the other selector mounted in the toolbox, using a Holley black pump mounted on the side of the toolbox for that function. Going to pick up 50 gal. of kerosene for the heating stoves tomorrow.

ok so far i am not sure if it is legal in the state of georgia. would federal law and state law be different? my tank is a big L shaped 95 gal tank, which i added a chest tool box to.i also have a electric transfer pump, just like at a gas station on the passenger side. on the drivers side at the bottom of the tank there is a threaded bung with a bolt in it now so it won't leak. i guess this is so you can plumb it into the factory tank. if i put a shut of valve off of that bung and just ran a fuel line to the tank, could i leave it open on long trips so i could run of 130 gallons? would it spill?

I have a 78 Gal. transfertank in mine. I used a ball valve to let me isolate the tanks so I can change the 10 micron filter w/o having the aux tank empty. I also used an electric tank selector valve as a shutoff while on the road. when the power is on it transfers, and while off it shifts to the other port which is blocked off.
I want to find a sensor to install in my tank so I can get rid of the gravity feed system and not have to worry about overfilling the stock tank.
