i change mine ever 4 months, sometimes longer if it is a low mileage 4 months

i'm pretty surprised how few people go by time elapsed rather than mileage.

the eye is a very poor insturment to measure the quality of oil. just cuz it's black doesn't mean it isn't working

Every 5,000 with Valvoline Premium Blue with Statopore filter.

Fuel filter every other oil change, also Fleetguard.

Currently have less than 11,000 miles on the truck.

Which is why I stated "I sent in a sample to be analysed over the last change. Just waiting on the results now and I'll let you know what type of particulate matter I'm seeing."

I want to see if black oil = particulate matter. It's been 6 days since I sent the sample in... How long does it normally take?

brandon.

Rotella at 5k
Fuel filter at 10k
Nice and simple

For me its not realy the engine im worried about using higher mileage oil, its the turbo using the oil supply that is 5k old. I like to keep it happy at 150,000 rpms.

Ya I know it is apples to oranges but a buddy had his extended warranty denied on his cube van duramax because he didn't change the oil every THREE months, they said the miles only matter if they come first. Since it is a business vehicle it was serviced at a certified shop that keep accurate records. Now that sucks doen't it! I tend to change my oil by the book which is THREE MONTHS or 7500 miles on schedule B which if you drive the truck like everyone else applies...2 bits?

I havent changed mine for the last 15,000! I have changed the filter though. I have what you call a self purging engine- about 1 GALLON every fill up or 500+ miles. Rear seal is leaking bad.
